SEO training that also covers the bit where AI answers the question instead of you
A private day for marketing and communications teams. Search, AI answer engines and the citation work that decides whether ChatGPT and Google’s AI Overviews quote you at all. One day, not two courses.
Delivered at your offices anywhere in the UK, at our Leeds studio, or live online. Half day £1,200, full day £1,800, up to six people. That is £200 to £300 a head, excluding VAT.
Everybody else sells this as two courses
Look at what is on the market. The large providers run an SEO day and then a separate AI search day, each at around £495 to £500 a head. The UK direct marketing trade body’s search masterclass, at the time of writing, does not mention AI Overviews, answer engines or large language models anywhere in its outline.
A marketing manager does not have two training budgets, and does not believe these are two skills. They are not. The same content decisions, the same structure, the same authority signals feed both. We teach them together in one day because that is how the work is actually done.
If a provider sells you AI search separately, ask them which half of the day they were leaving out before.
What the day covers
How search actually works now
Classic blue links, AI Overviews, and what has changed about who gets the click. Crawling, indexing and ranking explained without jargon, then the honest bit: which queries you can still win a click on and which ones are now answered above the fold.
- What a ranking factor is, and which ones your team can actually influence.
- How AI Overviews change click-through rates by query type.
- Where organic search still pays, and where it no longer does.
Keyword and intent research
Free tools your team can keep using, building a target list from your own data rather than a keyword tool’s suggestions, and reading intent properly. Most wasted SEO effort goes on terms the buyer was never going to type.
- Search Console as a research tool, not just a report.
- Separating informational, commercial and navigational intent.
- Judging whether a term is winnable from where you actually sit.
On-page work your team controls
Titles, headings, structure, internal links and the things a marketer can change without raising a developer ticket. We do this on your own pages, live, and write down the ones that need a developer separately.
- Title tags and meta descriptions that earn the click rather than describe the page.
- Heading structure, including using the buyer’s real questions as headings.
- Internal linking that supports a cluster rather than a menu.
- Structured data, and which types are worth the effort.
Content that earns the position
Depth, originality and the information gain that makes a page worth ranking. Also what to do with the pages you already have, which is usually more valuable than writing new ones.
- Auditing existing pages: improve, merge, or remove.
- Experience and expertise signals that survive scrutiny.
- Writing for a person and a machine at the same time.
AI answer engines, GEO and AEO
How retrieval-based answers are assembled, why a page gets cited rather than ranked, and the practical structure changes that make your content quotable. We cover measurement too, because most teams have no idea whether they are being cited at all.
- Why citation and ranking are different problems.
- Answer-shaped content, question headings and clean structure.
- Tracking your visibility in AI answers, using free methods.
- What to put in a report when the traffic no longer arrives as a click.
Getting cited: press, listicles and third party sources
This is the section other SEO courses cannot teach, and it is the half of AI visibility that matters most. Large language models lean heavily on third party sources rather than your own website. In professional services the overwhelming majority of AI citations come from listicles, directories and forums, not from company pages.
We are a working PR agency. Getting an organisation mentioned in someone else’s article is the thing we do for a living, so this session is about how to actually earn those mentions rather than a bullet on a slide.
- Finding the listicles and roundups that already rank for your terms.
- Pitching to be included, and what editors actually want.
- Directories and industry listings that carry real weight.
- Where user generated platforms fit, and where they do not.
- How earned coverage and search work as one programme rather than two departments.
Measuring it honestly
What to report, what not to claim, and how to present search to a board when part of the value no longer shows up as a session in analytics. We build the reporting view in the room.
The agenda, hour by hour
| Time | Session |
|---|---|
| 09:30 | Where you actually stand. Your Search Console open on screen, and what sixteen months of data says. |
| 10:15 | How search works now, including AI Overviews and what they have done to your click-through rate. |
| 11:00 | Break. |
| 11:15 | Keyword and intent research, built into a target list for your own pages. |
| 12:15 | On-page work, done live on two of your own pages. |
| 13:00 | Lunch. |
| 13:45 | Content: audit, improve, merge or remove. Applied to your existing library. |
| 14:30 | AI answer engines. Why pages get cited, and how to check whether yours are. |
| 15:15 | Citation and earned coverage. Finding the listicles, and the pitch. |
| 15:45 | Measurement, the report, and your prioritised fixes list with owners and dates. |
The half day keeps how search works, research, on-page and a compressed AI search session. The citation and content audit blocks need the full day.
What your team leaves with
- A written, prioritised list of fixes for your own site, split into what a marketer can do and what needs a developer.
- A keyword and question target list built from your own Search Console.
- Two pages actually rewritten in the session.
- A shortlist of listicles and roundups worth pitching to.
- A reporting view that covers both clicks and citations.
- The deck, a workbook and a month of email support.
Everyone else offers a certificate of attendance. We would rather you left with the list.
Who it is for
- In-house marketing teams who own the website but not the technical stack.
- Communications and PR teams whose coverage never seems to help the site.
- Charities, universities and public sector teams with a large site and a small team.
- Small business owners doing it themselves.
- Teams who have noticed traffic falling and suspect AI Overviews are the reason.
Who it is not for
Technical SEO specialists, and developers wanting a deep dive on rendering, log files and crawl budget. We will tell you at the scoping call if that is what you need.
Where social media fits, because people ask
Social posts do not rank, and social signals are not a ranking factor in the way the myth suggests. What social does do is get content in front of the people who link to it, quote it and include it in roundups, and several social platforms are themselves heavily cited by AI answer engines.
So the honest answer is that social media matters to search indirectly, through distribution and citation, and it matters more to AI answers than it does to blue links. We cover exactly where the line is, which stops teams either ignoring it or overclaiming it in a board report.
If search is a small part of a bigger problem, look at content marketing training or the social media strategy workshop.
Who runs the day
I am Chris Norton and I run most of these sessions myself. I founded Prohibition, the PR, social and content agency behind this site, I have worked in public relations for more than twenty years, and I have been running training since 2009. I co-authored Share This Too, the social media handbook published by the Chartered Institute of Public Relations, and I have been a CIPR member since I was a student.
Where a session goes deep into technical work, our search lead comes with me rather than being described in the third person. We run search and content programmes for paying clients continuously, so the examples in the room are ours.
Almost no page competing for this term will tell you who is delivering the training. It is worth asking every one of them.
Cost and format
Private team prices, not per person prices, excluding VAT.
| Format | Duration | Price, ex VAT | Per head at six |
|---|---|---|---|
| Full day workshop | 09:30 until 16:15 | £1,800 | £300 |
| Half day workshop | Three and a half hours | £1,200 | £200 |
| Additional attendee | Either format | £250 per person | — |
Comparable UK courses are priced per seat at roughly £350 to £1,295 a head, and most of them charge again for the AI search day. Six people on a £499 course is close to £3,000 for content delivered to a room of strangers. Ours is £1,800 for six, run on your own site and your own data.
We invoice on purchase order and complete supplier onboarding where you need it. Travel outside Yorkshire is charged at cost and agreed before booking.
Delivered across Yorkshire and the UK
We are based in Leeds and a good share of this work is delivered in Yorkshire, at client offices in Leeds, Sheffield, York, Bradford, Harrogate and Hull. We travel nationwide and we deliver live online for teams spread across sites.
If you want the session at our end rather than yours, we run it from our Leeds studio. See social media training in Leeds for how the local sessions work.

Should you train the team or hire an agency?
We sell both, so take this for what it is worth, but the answer is usually clearer than people expect.
Train the team when you have people who will do the work, when the site is small enough for them to own, and when the problem is that nobody knows what to prioritise. Training pays back fastest where there is capacity but no direction.
Hire an agency when the site is large and technical, when nobody has hours to give, or when the requirement is sustained link and coverage acquisition rather than knowledge. No day of training creates capacity that does not exist.
Plenty of organisations should do both, in that order, so the internal team can brief and judge the agency properly. We will give you an honest read at the scoping call even when the answer is that you do not need the training.
Questions we get asked
How much does SEO training cost in the UK?
Public courses are commonly £350 to £1,295 a head for a day, with AI search usually sold as a second course at a similar price. Private in-house days start around £590. Ours is £1,800 for a full day for up to six people, which is £300 a head with both subjects included.
Do we need technical knowledge first?
No. This is written for marketers and communications people, not developers. Anything that genuinely needs a developer goes on a separate list for you to hand over, rather than being skipped or fudged.
Is this SEO training or AI search training?
Both, in one day, which is the point. Most providers sell them separately at around £500 each. The content decisions that earn a ranking and the ones that earn a citation overlap heavily, so splitting them mainly benefits the provider.
How do we get cited by ChatGPT and AI Overviews?
Partly by structuring your own pages so they are quotable, and mostly by being mentioned in the third party sources those systems lean on. That is listicles, roundups, directories and coverage. It is the section of the day that a search agency cannot really teach and a PR agency can.
Will you look at our own site?
Yes, that is the whole day. Your Search Console, your pages, your analytics, on screen. You leave with a prioritised fixes list for your site rather than a generic checklist.
How long before we see results?
On-page and content fixes on pages already ranking can move within weeks. New pages and authority work take months. Anybody promising faster than that on a competitive term is selling you something. We set expectations by page, not by slogan.
What tools do you teach?
Free ones first, because most teams will not get budget approved. Search Console, Analytics, and the free tiers of the main SEO tools. We will tell you honestly when a paid tool is worth it and when the free version does the job.
Do you deliver in Leeds and across Yorkshire?
Yes. We are based in Leeds and deliver regularly across Leeds, Sheffield, York, Bradford, Harrogate and Hull, at your offices or ours. We also travel nationwide and deliver live online.
How many people can attend?
The price covers up to six, with additional attendees at £250 each. Above about sixteen the live exercises on your own site stop working and we would suggest two sessions.
Can you invoice against a purchase order?
Yes. We invoice on purchase order, complete supplier onboarding forms, and hold the insurance and policy documents most public sector and enterprise frameworks require.
Is there a certificate?
No. We are not an accredited body and we will not pretend to be. If a recognised qualification is the requirement, the CIM and the DMA both offer accredited search courses and we would point you there.
Do you offer support afterwards?
A month of email support as the fixes list meets reality, and a check in at ninety days to ask what actually happened. If you want ongoing help Prohibition can take on the work, but the day is built so your team does not need us.
Is your team also using AI to produce the content?
Getting cited by AI search is one problem. Producing content with AI without it reading as machine written is a different one. If your team is doing both, start at AI training for marketing and communications teams, or go straight to Microsoft Copilot training if the work happens inside Microsoft 365.
