Video: Do you worry about your marketing clients catching the train to London?

It’s been a busy week and this has made me smile this morning. This video is part of a wider campaign from one of our clients uBer – the video takes a humorous angle on why marketers sometimes think it’s far safer to go with a London agency. I know I have talked about this a lot but although there are lots of brilliant companies in London there are also plenty of great quality PR, marketing, content and creative agencies outside of the M25 and this video shows you that in a far more entertaining way than I can write. I love ... Read more

Is YouTube really worth six times more budget spend in 2016?

An article written in the Guardian this week has reported that Google is claiming YouTube advertisements are much more effective than those on traditional television. In fact, it goes further by claiming in 80% of cases, adverts on the video platform are actually better at driving sales. This report does seem to be very self-serving for Google, to simply sell more advertising. I mean seriously? Of course, it highlights that YouTube is better  – it is written for them. It uses results from a report, by Matt Brittin, Google’s top-ranked European Executive, stating that in a campaign analysing advertisements across ... Read more

Video of the week – Wrecking Ball Parody

This week I was up in Newcastle attending Thinking Digital a cracking digital conference/experience “for those who have a desire to learn”. The diversity of speakers and topics were fantastic from the Chief Information Office of the HMRC  right through to Jonathan O’Halloran who is striving to develop a hand held device that decodes pathogens in 20 mins rather than in several weeks. Jonathan’s session made me feel that there are people out there striving to make a difference in the digital world and I found it very inspiring. His plan is to create a device that can end epidemics and pandemics ... Read more

Grumpy Cat goes to Disney

My life is finally complete as today I am researching social campaigns that use cats – yes I know. However, I came across this campaign by Disney called #Disneyside which happened last month which basically encouraged YouTube superstars to visit the park for a day for free as long as they created their own content. I can see why people went along as everyone would love a free trip to Disney (I have never been are you listening Disney???). In this clip Grumpy Cat finds her Disney Side with the help of one of the seven dwarfs with a similar ... Read more

Bodyform Facebook crisis response is true genius

Another week and another brilliant PR stunt – this time it was the Bodyform Facebook page that earlier received a post from a guy called Richard complaining about periods in the following manner: Hi , as a man I must ask why you have lied to us for all these years . As a child I watched your advertisements with interest as to how at this wonderful time of the month that the female gets to enjoy so many things ,I felt a little jealous. I mean bike riding , rollercoasters, dancing, parachuting, why couldn’t I get to enjoy this ... Read more

Fancy a private jet? An online marketing campaign says get yourself out for dinner then

I came across an interesting online campaign this week which I thought was rather recently, Club Individual is the free membership programme from the Individual Restaurant Group which owns the Piccolino’s Restaurant chain as well as Restaurant Bar & Grill, Bank and Zinc. They have been dipping their toe into social media recently and their latest campaign caught my eye.  Here’s a YouTube clip they pulled together to give you a flavour:   They are giving their members the chance for a trip to Verona to see an opera at the famed Arena di Verona and meet the Montresor family ... Vinnie Jones’ hard and fast Hands-only CPR – A brilliant social media campaign

I had to share this video as I spotted this campaign on the news this morning and I think it is a brilliant campaign from the British Heart Foundation that has combined humour with a serious issue. Many people in the UK don’t know how to give CPR when someone is in cardiac arrest and the idea of doing it to the music of Staying Alive is just genius as it makes memorable. If it saves one person’s life it will be a campaign worth doing and I think it has been executed beautifully. They have gone all out on ... Read more

KLM’s social media strategy video long but pretty good

Here is an interesting video that has been created for/by the airline KLM on its social media strategy which I got from one of my local friends David Turner – so hat tip to him. I have to admit when I opened it and saw it was nine and a half minutes long, I thought there is no way am I watching this, but I actually stuck it out for once and it was fairly impressive. I have worked for a couple of airlines before and I like to follow what they get up to in the social world as ... Read more

BBC Correspondent Nick Robinson loses the plot and becomes a YouTube hit

This has amused me this morning, BBC correspondent Nick Robinson was filming a link for the BBC on Wednesday when a protestor decided to put his placard right behind him on a live link to the studio. Sadly Nick didn’t like this very much and lost his temper and it has become a bit of a YouTube hit. He has posted about it yesterday on his blog which says: If you were watching the 6 O’Clock News last night, you may have seen a “Troops Out” sign on a large pole being waved behind my head. I have a confession. ... Read more
