Unpicking the fall of Twitter with Neville Hobson

So here we are the final episode of the podcast in 2023 and I have to admit I am pretty happy with how we have done. I received the graphic below from our podcast host yesterday. I think we have done pretty well in six months and I have learnt so much about podcast marketing that I am going to use for my clients.  This latest “Socially Unacceptable” episode with Neville Hobson – a right digital Odysseus, if you ask me – was an absolute corker. We traversed the ever-shifting sands of online communication, exploring the heady mix of brands, ... Read more

Twitter negativity – is it the trolls’ platform of choice?

I’m going to start this post by saying that I really do love Twitter, I’ve been on Twitter since February 2008. In fact, when I started tweeting all that time ago there were only about 50 people on Twitter from the UK, none of which really knew how to use it, including several people I still follow today. Twitter is brilliant and is still my platform of choice – all that said it really isn’t perfect. An amazing networking tool Twitter is an amazing networking tool that connects people with others, that previously you could never think you could connect ... Read more

Monday marks the 10th anniversary of the first tweet ever to have been sent on the platform Twitter – see below. just setting up my twttr — Jack (@jack) 21 March 2006 Much has been written about Twitter in recent times, In quarter 4 2015, Twitter mentioned that the decline in active users came from both seasonality and its decision to reduce the volume of mail sent to dormant users to bring them back to the service. According to Twitter, the decline in active users was offset by the marketing spending in Q4. Basically, usage is declining and it has ... Read more

High street brand scooped by Prohibition

Apologies for the blatant self promotion here in today’s blog but this is just a little nod to my team at Prohibition who have just scooped another major high street brand. I am sure you saw our little announcement this morning in The Drum or on Prolific North. But in case you didn’t I am delighted to reveal that we have managed to secure the national formal menswear retailer, Suit Direct. The popular fashion brand has more than 15 stores across the UK and sells suits, shirts, jackets, belts, shoes and many other men’s accessories. We have been appointed to ... Read more

A tweet shop the official video

A few weeks ago you may remember I wrote about a Twitter shop my team and I at Prohibition created to help create some online chatter at a construction trade show. Well in that article I promised you I would share the video, well here it is. This wasn’t created to showcase the success of social media, rather to highlight the trade show itself but it should help give you a feel for what we were able to deliver for our client.

Tweet 4 Pies– a tweet shop for one of my clients

What can be better than a free pie in exchange for a tweet? So this week the Prohibition team and I have been out and about working our buts off. I was over at CIH conference in Manchester on Wednesday supporting our client Keepmoat on their stand. To help a brand achieve standout at the event can be a tough call at these kind of large scale events. So we sat down together and decided to create the show’s first-ever “tweet-shop”, where delegates could pay for pies, (we went with a Brazilian football theme obviously) football merchandise including a pretty ... A Social Media Timeline in 2014

Earlier this week my team and I launched a piece of work looking at the evolution of social media in 2014. I wrote a blog about the ten channels which I felt had changed the face of the social web. Some people agree and some have pointed out other platforms that could have been included. The truth is there are thousands and we picked the majority we felt had really stood out over time. If you want to see which were my top ten you can read the post here. Courtesy of: Prohibition

Speaking at the CIPR’s Social Media Conference 2013

I am proud to announce that I will be speaking at the CIPR’s “Share This Live” Social Media Conference 2013.  Last year I wrote a quick blog post on Share This, a book that I recommend all PR professionals should try and read in order to stay up to speed with developments in the industry. The book contained practical advice from 20 experienced practitioners on how to move into digital PR from a number of different perspectives.  After, I had written the article I was then contacted by a friend of mine, Stephen Waddington the editor and one of the ... New online crisis management tool but is it all that?

Have you ever tweeted something and spelt a word wrong? Or included the wrong link? Or worse still tweeted from the wrong account? Well now there is a new Twitter application which allows you to contact everyone who has retweeted you, informing them of your mistake. Retwact has a sound basis as it can access the last five tweets which have been retweeted, and all you simply have to do is type a retraction tweet, for example: “I was wrong about this : New Wire: Five Ways to “Get Rich Quick!” https://t.co/0WC4kKToox #student” Retwact will simply retweet the retraction and ... Google algorithm to change tomorrow and what it means for PRs and digital marketers

Google is still the master of search, the centre of the internet and the go-to site when you’re in need of whatever information you require.
