My top 10 PR Campaigns in 2017 so far

With campaigns becoming increasingly more integrated and digital, I like to stay abreast of what has been happening in the creative sector. I mean it can’t hurt to be aware of the finest campaigns and the best ideas and executions can it? I like to use them as inspiration for our next campaign at Prohibition although often they are in completely different sectors but it can help you whilst you are scratching your heads in a brainstorm. As I write this I can’t believe it’s already the 19th July, so as we are easily half way through the year. What ... Read more

The Future of Public Relations

This is a guest post written by Tom Jones (no not the singer) an intern at my agency Prohibition that has impressed me whilst he has been working with us. I asked him to give me a master student’s view of what the future of PR is today. I teach a lot of students at Leeds Beckett University and they have a very different take on the industry compared with those of us already working on the coalface, so I felt like it would be interesting to hear his thoughts. So hear is the article he provided me on the topic. As ... Read more

Marketers don’t be fooled – blogging still isn’t dead – the proof

So last week was rather busy, the team at Prohibition and I went out to the CIPR Pride Awards for Yorkshire & Lincolnshire and thankfully we scooped another award – this year it was “Best Consumer Relations Campaign” for a campaign we did for Interflora. However, before that I was discussing the digital landscape with a potential employee, and they expressed their thoughts to me that blogging was now dead. This struck me as a bold statement, they were younger than me and although I know blogging is not in its 2000s hey day – I still felt it was ... Read more

We help Interflora give one lucky individual the best birthday ever (Video)

This week has been really rather busy, with the phones ringing off the hook. Following on from our integrated campaign late last year with Interflora in which we discovered the best and worst times of year to celebrate your birthday (Daily Mail), we used the trusty Birthday calculator app we created to help identify the very best date, which was found to be today! (July 28th) Tasked by the client with highlighting this special day in July, we commissioned some social media listening to identify insights and decided to deliver an experiential stunt to raise awareness and share the love. ... PR Interviews: Heather Baker Editor of the B2B PR Blog

As you are probably aware over the last few months I have been interviewing PR practitioners from all over the world as part of my interview series called 20:20 Vision. The concept of these interviews is that I ask each practitioner 20 questions about themselves and they give us a brief glimpse into their working lives and what makes them tick. Most of the people I speak with will have a strong interest in digital, online or modern public relations strategy. The first interview was with Arik C. Hanson and a while ago I interviewed Crosby Noricks the founder of ... Read more

Government crisis: Watch out for typos they could cost you £9million

In the news this week the tiny difference between ‘Taylor & Sons Ltd’ and ‘Taylor & Son Ltd’ has ended up costing our Government £9 million – so I guess that’s me and you too. Yes the Government had a major crisis on its hands after a typo – albeit a very important one – cost the taxpayer a sum of £8.8m because it resulted in 250 workers sadly becoming unemployed. The high court has ruled that Taylor & Sons will be awarded the hefty sum after a civil servant had mistaken the firm for the actual liquidised Taylor & Son. ... Read more

Is the BBC’s “The Voice” just a PR platform for the judges?

Celebrity judge and pop music sensation Will.I.Am (although I am not a huge fan of his voice) raised the question of how BBC talent show, “The Voice” need to make the winners into winners. With its latest series airing last Saturday, new celebrity judge Rita Ora managed to bring in more than eight million viewers- the largest audience for the opening episode of any series so far, which is a good start but why are people tuning in? Is it for the acts or is it simply for the coaches themselves? It all started in 2012, “The Voice” is now ... Read more

Five Critical Trends in Digital PR You Must Act On

In September, the PRCA launched a new report into digital trends in the PR industry. Put together after a YouGov study of 228 agency and in-house PR professionals across a wide range of sectors, the results are, for me, both encouraging and worrying. As a top line summary, there are five key points to consider. Digital remains the big growth area in PR. This really should come as a surprise to no-one. I hope. Agency and in-house skill sets continue to grow, which makes common sense considering the growth in digital and practitioners having no choice but to skill up. ... Read more

The top 100 property Twitter users in the UK

This piece of work caught my eye today, Zoopla the property search site has produced its Property Power 100 which is a list of the top 100 estate agents in the UK. I think is a fairly nice piece of work – rather simple but smart. The reason for creating a Twitter list like this is very simple, links, but this is how the brand describe it:  What is it? A leaderboard for UK Estate Agents in Social Media as scored by Klout. How are the scores calculated? Initially via Klout, though we’ll be pulling more sources and signals over ... Read more

Base jumper sets his pants on fire in PR stunt – Video

An Norwegian underwear producer called Devold put its protective clothing to the test in a PR stunt and videoed the whole thing and then sent it to me. The workwear brand set fire to a base jumper and sent him over a cliff in something which did seem pretty scary and that’s why I like it. The thing that concerns me the most is my pilot-chute (that opens the parachute). If the pilot-chute gets burned it might not work”, says stuntman Tom Erik Heiman before he is about to jump off a 1200-meter high cliff indulged in flames. Apparently Devold manufacturers protective underwear ... Read more
