Norton’s Notes Officially the 7th PR Blog in the UK

I have had a busy few months already in 2016, the year has started well for the Prohibition team and I have been up and down the country in meetings with exciting brands advising on social media strategy. I personally felt like I should have written a bit more on here recently, but frankly I haven’t had the time, as running a 10-strong PR agency and being a lecturer at University is quite time consuming especially if I want an actual life. However, a couple of days ago I was contacted by Vuelio and told this blog has been listed ... Read more

PR Week is killed off – let’s hope this is for the better

Earlier this week it was announced that the CIPR is to cease it’s arrangement with PR Week after December 2014. PR week to many has been many things to many people, from a mild irritant getting leaks on the industry, to a useful gauge of the PR sector but it’s true it kind of lost its way about 18 months ago. The media landscape has changed and the industry has had to also but I still felt an industry voice was needed. I sit on the CIPR committee in Yorkshire and Lincolnshire and have been involved for several years on ... Read more

The one book online PR professionals must read

Unless you have been hidden under a rather large rock over the last twelve months you can’t have missed the splash that the Official CIPR Social Media Handbook “Share This” has made in the PR community. As I live in the freezing cold north of England and my agency’s HQ is in Leeds I don’t tend to get to as many conferences these days as I would like and so I read a lot of books and online media on digital marketing. I bought “Share This” a while back because I wanted to find a book that offered practical advice ... Read more

PR graduate or PR Apprentice which is better?

Today I attended an event which was organised and presented by a number of young PR apprentices from the Leeds area. I went to see how good they were and how the scheme worked in practice and if I am honest I was very impressed. I sit on the CIPR committee here in the North and this is because I strongly believe in helping to develop young people who want to work in PR, which is why I was so interested in this relatively new concept. At Prohibition we have a dedicated intern-programme that we run to help develop local ... Read more

Leeds and Yorkshire PR Agencies to battle in charity pub quiz

Yes unbelievably it’s that time again and it’s hard to believe that it’s been almost a year, but somehow I have managed to organise our annual charity CIPR Pub Quiz, in the memory of my old friend and former YEP journalist Nigel Scott. I am hoping to get this event packed out again with people from all across the Yorkshire media sector. If I am honest I am quite proud to say that this is the third year we have done and each year it has been completely sold out, so we have a lot to live up to. Recession ... Read more

Public relations firms and the media battle in out at my charity pub quiz

If you follow me on Twitter, you will have no doubt been seeing my recent tweets about the charity pub quiz I organise for the regional committee of the CIPR. I hate plugging things too much but the pub quiz was to raise money for a charitable cause that was deeply close to my heart. A journalist friend of mine called Nigel Scott sadly died of cancer in 2009 and so collectively we decided to hold a fun event last year to honour him and to try and raise some money for the charities that helped him in his final ... PR Companies in Leeds battle it out with local journalists at charity pub quiz

I posted a while ago about a quiz I was organising to help raise money for a couple of charities. Well last night all the magic came together and we held the quiz at The Cosmopolitan Hotel in Leeds. It was held in the memory of the former business editor of the Yorkshire Evening Post Nigel Scott. The reason I wanted it to do it was Nigel was a great guy and someone that made us lowly PR people feel at ease. He truly was the nicest journalist I have ever spoken too. I felt an event that brought all ... Read more

PR Companies in Leeds/Yorkshire take on the media in charity event

As I sure many of you know I am the social media coordinator for the CIPR in the Yorkshire and Lincolnshire region. As a regional committee we get involved in organising lots of corporate events and training but on the whole we don’t organise many fun networking events. I felt we needed to hold a regional event that brought together the local Yorkshire based PR companies and the media. I also wanted to do something for a for a brilliant journalist, and friend of mine, who sadly died at the age of 47 during the Christmas period last year. His ... Read more

Leeds PR Agency wins the national award for Outstanding Small Consultancy of the Year

Warning – this is a self promotional post! I took a call yesterday out of the blue from a lady at the CIPR who called to inform us that we had won the overall national Grand Prix Award for our category. To be honest I was a little shocked but also truly delighted. I won’t lie to you, blood, sweat and tears (well almost) went into our first ever award submission and we only entered the regional awards because Wolfstar had only been going for a short period and we didn’t have enough time to enter any others. The official ... Read more

CIPR Yorkshire & Lincolnshire launch Facebook Group

In my new role as social media coordinator for CIPR Yorkshire and Lincolnshire, I have advised that initially it creates an open Facebook group to share more information with its members and non-members. To be honest, it’s not the most exciting item of social media/group to look at just yet (we only have 12 members as I write) as we still need some good official CIPR content to be added but it’s a start and it’s an organic thing, which means we can all begin to post items and provide updates to each other. The group is open to anyone ... Read more
