Meadowhall Sharing The Valentine’s Love (video)

Here is a nice little campaign we have been helping with recently. The campaign is all about spreading the love in order to get people to celebrate Valentines Day over at Meadowhall in Sheffield. This campaign is a nice touchy feely one as most Valentines campaigns are. It involved a strong media partnership with a radio station and a live stunt that took place over Valentines weekend.

Are we ever going to have a northern PR powerhouse?

With George Osborne’s latest budget announcement expected on Wednesday, there are a lot of rumours flying around, one of which will be a reduction or removal of Entrepreneur’s Relief, and there has been a lot of rhetoric about the Government’s Northern Powerhouse initiative. The initiative is looking at devolution and how Westminster is going to shift some of the power from London to the regions, which made me think about our role up here and whether this would ever trickle down into our beloved industry of public relations. Sure, we might get a faster HS2 line connecting us better and ... Read more

Are we seeing the slow painful death of Google Alerts?

Over the last couple of months I have been really busy giving my usual lectures to my lovely PR and Journalism students at Leeds Beckett University and one of the presentations I have crafted is on the Future of Social Media listening which covers the issues and different elements modern PR practitioners need to consider when listening and identifying important issues online. I won’t bore you with the full details but I cover a wide variety of elements in the seminar including the beautiful graphical Enterprise solutions right down to the free monitoring tools and let’s face it no free ... Yorkshire’s Top 20 Bloggers

If you read my blog regularly you will know that I do like to share any blogger lists we have created in my PR Agency Prohibition, because they do take time to create, and  I believe it helps other to save time to find the best writers. I also love meeting and speaking to good writers from the best region in the country so today I have created a list of my top 20 Yorkshire blogs. To create this final list I have used a number of different tools and been through more than 200 blogs from Yorkshire and then ... Read more

Yorkshire’s most romantic hotel–OX Pasture Hall

Last weekend I was kindly invited to Ox Pasture Hall to sample the hotel and see what I thought about it and the surrounding area. As I have been blogging for almost eight years now, I do get offered a lot of things to review on the blog but sadly due to time restraints, I don’t tend to take them up very often, but this really seemed like an interesting offer as the hotel looked stunning online. The hotel itself is set in more than seventeen acres of beautiful gardens situated in the stunning North York Moors National Park, which ... Read more

Best burgers in Leeds – Almost Famous

To celebrate the Prohibition team being shortlisted for the CIPR’s Outstanding Consultancy award we decided to take the team out for a fancy burger and a drink or two. We were looking for somewhere local in Leeds that was a little bit different and decided to pay a visit to the new Almost Famous in Leeds. I believe there are already a couple in Manchester and Liverpool. I had taken the time to carefully read the entire menu carefully as it was packed with mouth watering burger concoctions like the “Johnny Mac” which has a deep fried Mac & Cheese ... Read more

If you encourage your kids to do sports are you being a pushy parent?

I know I don’t ever really cover being a parent on the blog but I wanted your collective advice on something so bear with me on this. My little boy Jacob is six and this year he took up football. This wasn’t because I asked him too it was because some of his friends were doing it and he wanted to start playing regularly. Now I was terrible at football and if I am honest I never went to any football training and the the first I experienced it was at high school. So when I took him to this ... Read more

My high flying horror at the weekend!

Last Sunday 28th April, my wife and I were at a car boot sale at Ripley cricket club, near my home town of Harrogate and we experienced something that pretty much terrified me as a parent. You may have heard about the inflatable slide incident on the news or in the newspapers. Six people were injured including a number of young children but thankfully none of them were seriously hurt. At the time I was with my two young children and I suddenly heard a surrounding gasp from everyone in the field. When I looked up to my horror, this ... Read more

Part-time PR lecturer at Leeds Metropolitan University – wish me luck

A couple of weeks ago, I started a new stage in my career after being invited to become a part-time lecturer on the PR degree at Leeds Metropolitan University. I took the degree BA (Hons) Public Relations myself many years ago, and although I enjoyed a lot of it, there were still certain things I felt could be improved and so I have taken the challenge and decided to take the plunge. The best part of the degree for me was when I went on industrial placement and worked in-house on a nuclear power station in Lancashire. I wanted to ... Read more
