How Share of Search Can Help You Measure Your PR Impact

I was down south in sunny Brighton last week at PR Week’s annual PR360 conference and there were a number of talks that got me thinking and one of them was about clear measurement. Measurement is the big issue that so many marketers and PRs often struggle with and it is one of the reasons I have implemented a new AMEC-based measurement product at my agency to ensure we are at the top of our game when it comes to measurement. As PR professionals, we know how important it is to measure the impact of your campaigns on your brand awareness, ... Read more

PR Week is killed off – let’s hope this is for the better

Earlier this week it was announced that the CIPR is to cease it’s arrangement with PR Week after December 2014. PR week to many has been many things to many people, from a mild irritant getting leaks on the industry, to a useful gauge of the PR sector but it’s true it kind of lost its way about 18 months ago. The media landscape has changed and the industry has had to also but I still felt an industry voice was needed. I sit on the CIPR committee in Yorkshire and Lincolnshire and have been involved for several years on ... Read more

Is it wrong to steal an agency’s idea if you pay for it?

Yesterday John Owens wrote an article on PR week about a new tech start-up company who are on the lookout for a clever creative PR idea which they will pay £3,000 for. Bizarrely though TransferWise, the company in question, have already lined up an agency to implement the idea. They just need someone else to come up with it. This different take on things sparked a number of opinions in the PR industry, most of which resulted in the company apologising for any offence that they may have caused to the agencies that put their heart and soul into campaign ... Official PR fees in Technology revealed as £87,000 per head

Last week, PR Week revealed its Top 40 Tech PR Agencies in the UK based on revenue. It supplied some interesting statistics and having a closer look at them I felt I could take a different slant on it as I was interested in something else other than revenue. PR Week said: The majority of tech agencies are adjusting to this changing landscape and consequently are experiencing rising fee incomes. The total tech fee income of PRWeek’s latest Top 40 Tech Consultancies sample is up almost 30 per cent on last year So it appears its good news for us ... Read more

Any PR agencies found to be exploiting interns should be prosecuted.

I read an article in PR Week last week that made my blood boil, I would have written about it sooner but if I am honest we are flat out at the moment and I failed to get my thoughts onto the blog. The article stated the following: PR professionals are among the worst offenders for exploiting interns, according to research by campaign group Intern Aware. Ten cent of the 100 firms reported to HM Revenue and Customs for investigation are either PR agencies or companies advertising PR roles. For the last three months I have been lecturing at Leeds Metropolitan University ... Read more

Twitter, blackberry or social media in general isn’t to blame for the riots

I think I speak for most people when I say we have all been saddened by the recent events in Tottenham.  A young man called Mark Duggan was shot dead recently by the police and this has cause some unrest in the northern borough of London. It has been widely reported that social media but more importantly Twitter was responsible for gathering these individuals together. However, this isn’t true. Social media is just a means of modern day communication. I gave my initial thoughts about this in a PR Week interview this morning as did my friend Stephen Waddington who ... Read more

The best PRs on Twitter in Yorkshire – Apparently

I was tweeted this morning by my good friend Adrian Johnson who was recently inspired by the PR Week Power Player list which is based on the original PR Week Social Media Power Players list. The PR Week list has been created by Andrew Bruce Smith and Adrian decided to create his own list of PR power players in Yorkshire and amazingly somehow little old me has come out as the number one. Now I would like to think this is down to my own ingrained natural writing talent and my enigmatic personality but it’s probably luck and the fact ... Read more
