The Top 11 Social Media Crises of 2017

I speak a lot to student and marketers alike about social media crisis management as I believe it can have a huge impact on a brand’s reputation and share price if you get it wrong. Even today I am amazed at how many brands just pass the social media content to the most junior member of the team. Everything is fine and dandy until the shit hits the fan and things start to unravel – this is usually when the PR team are called in and start to earn their wages and all of a sudden they start getting listened ... My top 10 social media campaigns of 2016

This year (2016) has been an eventful year to say the least, and as it’s coming to a close I thought I’d take a closer look back at some of the best social campaigns of the year and list a few of my favourites. Here are ten of my favourite social media campaigns from 2016. The Salvation Army: #thedress Certainly one of the most brutally effective campaigns on the list, The Salvation Army used the viral ‘blue vs gold dress’ from earlier in the year to highlight domestic violence. Using the tagline ‘why is it so hard to see black ... Read more

Dear Facebook your customer service for social media agencies sucks!

We all know Facebook is the behemoth of the social media world, our clients have to use it, and now it’s gone pay to play, we all have to spend our budgets to use it to get some kind of decent reach, unless you are in the camp that says it’s time to ignore the platform altogether. So with that in mind you would think that Facebook would have a killer customer service team that would be agile, friendly, adaptable and helpful to get you to spend your money in the correct areas right? WRONG! Firstly, try finding their phone ... Read more

The world before social media (Funny Infographic)

I love this graphic god knows who created it but it reminds me of the good old days when we all used fax machines to send our press releases out and picked up something called a phone. I found this on here but I would love to know who created it originally as I like a good sense of humour and I would like to credit them. I know how long a good infographic can take. I have created a couple in the last 12 months one was a social media timeline and the other was a social media cheat ... Read more

The Ultimate Social Media Size Cheat Sheet

We have all been there, frantically struggling to get our banners and profile pictures to look just right on our social media channels. Well for the last couple of weeks I have been working on a social media cheat sheet with my team that gives you all of the top social media channels dimensions in one place. It’s not rocket science but hopefully if you work in social media marketing it may make your job a bit easier and we could all do with that.       Courtesy of: Prohibition PR

PROHIBITION MARKS RECORD YEAR WITH NEW BOARD APPOINTMENT AND NEW OFFICE

For those of you that missed my team’s little note last week, I am delighted to announce that my agency, Prohibition, is celebrating a record year for 2012-2013 which has seen us double in size, move to much larger and funkier offices, and appoint a new board director. Our agency has doubled in size in terms of people and revenue and our ... Read more

Unethical business practice is threatening social media

An interesting survey from the Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM) has found that consumers want more regulation when it comes to social media marketing. I can’t say I am that surprised because in my opinion legislation needs to be reviewed on everything associated with the internet because it simply cannot keep up – just take music and copyright for instance. The CIM survey found the following: One in five consumers have experienced brands behaving unethically online Almost half of consumers threaten to boycott businesses that manipulate social media Despite acknowledging the value of social media to businesses, more than half ... Let’s Get Social – The Social Media Song

This video is worth watching don’t be put off by the five minutes on the clock – I would love to hear your thoughts. Mary McCoy from Continuum Marketing Services sings a humor-laced theme song for this year’s Social Media Marketing World. The song was apparently a warm-up for a keynote panel led by Jay Baer on the topic of “Have We Lost the Social in Social Media?” If you want to sing along in a kareoke style here are the lyrics: “Let’s Get Social” Lyrics: Verse 1 I’m showing you things you’ll like Trying to get engagement Here’s some photos ... Social Media ROI Explained – Presentation

Yesterday, my social media agency Prohibition held another of our strategic social media seminars and the topic was on the much discussed issue of social media ROI. However, instead of me banging on about my thoughts on this issue for once I have decided to share the full deck on Slideshare which you can see below. Obviously, a deck without me discussing our case studies doesn’t tell the whole story but you do get a feel for what I think on the matter. The event was sold out and attended by more than 30 senior marketers and bizarrely they even ... Read more

Wifi is now as important as a good night’s sleep

I get approached quite a lot to cover technology stories or products that aren’t particularly relevant to me but WiFi on trains, hotels and restaurants is something that I feel quite strongly about. I just have to ask myself how many times have I been on the red eye 5am train flying into London trying to use a useless connection? The answer is a lot and it is very annoying when it doesn’t work. I like many people look to use the free WiFi wherever I can as my mobile service can often be patchy when tethering to my laptop. So ... Read more
