Hotel Review – Applegarth Villas Bowness Windamere

Those of you that read my blog regularly will know occasionally I decide to write a review or two but it’s only when someone inspires me to do so or I get a freebie for my honest opinion. Recently, I have been so busy with the growth of Prohibition I haven’t had much time to write about my experiences but this I thought was worth the extra time investment. This is the former not the latter, last weekend my wife and I decided to leave the kids back at home and take a trip to the lakes to celebrate our ... Read more

Has Edward Snowden changed privacy forever?

This week I attended the brilliant Thinking Digital in Newcastle. The conference had some truly world class speakers and some awe inspiring presentations from building a home on the Moon through to solving virus outbreaks across the planet. It is great to see how technology is being used to better the world rather than just to simply market stuff. Some of the products and ideas were staggering and there was also some fine piano playing from a promising young talent. The section that really made me think though was the final panel discussion. The panel consisted of The Guardian’s Jemima Kiss, Meri ... Read more

Wifi is now as important as a good night’s sleep

I get approached quite a lot to cover technology stories or products that aren’t particularly relevant to me but WiFi on trains, hotels and restaurants is something that I feel quite strongly about. I just have to ask myself how many times have I been on the red eye 5am train flying into London trying to use a useless connection? The answer is a lot and it is very annoying when it doesn’t work. I like many people look to use the free WiFi wherever I can as my mobile service can often be patchy when tethering to my laptop. So ... Read more

This is the best family day out in Yorkshire

If you read my blog regularly you will probably know I live in Harrogate, North Yorkshire and with the weather getting colder and us all heading towards winter my wife and I are constantly looking for ways to keep the kids and ourselves entertained. So yesterday we took the family out into the Yorkshire Dales to a rather different place called The Forbidden corner which is about 20 miles out of Harrogate in North Yorkshire near Masham. I don’t write a lot about my days out but this really was rather special as it was unlike anything I have ever ... Read more

My House Music DJ Set from Moko Lounge – Friday 16th March 2012

Warning this post is not about social media, online PR or internet marketing. It is just a quick link to the DJ set I performed and recorded live at a nightclub called Moko Lounge in Harrogate on Friday night. The music I play is everything from funky house through to the more funky electro. I do like a nice strong base line and a strong vocal. For this set I played for 3.5hrs and this is about an hour in so it is a bit more up tempo rather than a warm up set. I was asked to play more ... Read more

We are looking for a graduate now – job vacancies in PR?

I have just been listening to BBC News and it is talking about the toughest job market ever for graduates. As most people know one of my clients is Lucre Social (where I work as a director running social campaigns) and together we have been looking for a graduate to join our team in west London for a few weeks and we have been suprised at the lack of good quality people coming forward. I have shared this role on Twitter for the last few days and although we have a few good candidates that have come forward, we really ... Read more
