Stillness has been my key – book review

A couple of weeks ago I was speaking to a good friend of mine, who also happens to be my little boys’ football coach Simon Clifford. Simon is a brilliant football coach and has been helping my boys develop their football skills for a number of years now and he is doing a PHD in Sports Science as such he reads a lot. However, rather than focus on their development this time he wanted to give me a little bit of friendly advice which I am never averse too. He said if there was one book that I had to ... Read more

My latest house mix – May 2019

Yesterday I managed to get a bit of time to myself to put together my latest house music mix. I have packed this one with the latest tracks from the last couple of months that have really caught my eye. There is a distinct 1990s vibe to it for some reason which wasn’t intentional but it works and should be perfect for the start of the summer giving you something uplifting to listen too. Here is my Soundcloud channel if you like house music and this has more of my mixes on it from previous months.

Ten things I learnt from my trip to Cuba

Two weeks ago I returned from Cuba with my family, it was an eye-opening trip and I learnt a lot about a country that I knew very little about other than the critical role it almost played in World War Three and the revolution with Fidel Castro. The last week’s events have really saddened me as Hurricane Irma has torn through the country with devastating effects. I haven’t stopped thanking my lucky stars we left the country when we did. The people who got off our plane must have been evacuated by Thomas Cook although judging by its lacklustre PR response ... Read more

Norton’s Notes Officially the 7th PR Blog in the UK

I have had a busy few months already in 2016, the year has started well for the Prohibition team and I have been up and down the country in meetings with exciting brands advising on social media strategy. I personally felt like I should have written a bit more on here recently, but frankly I haven’t had the time, as running a 10-strong PR agency and being a lecturer at University is quite time consuming especially if I want an actual life. However, a couple of days ago I was contacted by Vuelio and told this blog has been listed ... Read more

Cash for blogs – are some bloggers now selling out?

Over the last five to ten years we have seen a big shift in how blogs are being used, I myself remember starting my personal blog back in 2007 and a number of my colleagues thought I was crazy. Who will read that? How will people find it? Why bother wasting your time with that? These were just some of the jibes/questions I received. Here is my first post, I Just re-read it and it made me wince a tad. Blogging was certainly not the cool thing to do back then and the technology was not that great for doing ... Read more

The world’s first interactive DJ Album cover

I love this and had to share it as it combines my two big loves technology and DJing. Novalia worked with DJ Qbert to create the world’s first interactive DJ Decks in an album cover. The technology behind this is brilliant and really gives you some food for thought on what you can do with paper and cardboard these days. I might have to be using the technology in our next PR stunt. The cover comes complete with two decks, a cross fader and an array of SFX buttons printed directly onto paper using printed electronics and artwork. QBert’s Kickstarter ... Read more

The Top Ten Weight Lifting Blogs

With the end of the year quickly approaching I know we are all out wining and dining in the PR industry but come January everyone will be hitting the gym again and what better way to get ready for the new year than learning how to train with weights properly. At prohibition we recently did some influencer outreach for a new client and we had to target some of the world’s top weight lifting blogs but we couldn’t find any up to date lists so I thought it would be useful to create one ourselves. We use a number of ... Read more

Ignore Google Guest Blogging is not dead here’s why

Guest blogging was called into question recently by Google’s head of Webspam Matt Cutts, who said in his latest provocative post that “people should put a fork in it.” A lot of people have talked about this but I have my own opinion and I thought it was worth sharing. I’m going to explain why guest posting still has its place and can provide benefits as long as it’s done spam-free and to best-practice.  Cutts said that guest writing for blogs has become dominated by SEO companies, using nasty links to increase exposure and in turn making the practice more ... The Top 25 UK PR and social media blogs– in my humble opinion

This is a guest post written by good friend and colleague Zubair, you can follow him on Twitter @souljaof4tune and read his blog here. After a rather interesting discussion with Chris about some really good PR and social media blogs out there and the realisation that no one has a made a list of the very best (we all love a good list – don’t we?) in a long time. I decided to create this, the top 25 UK PR and social media blogs. Using the Ad Age Power 150, a list of the top English language marketing blogs. I ... Read more
