Twitter celebrates its 10th birthday by closing Tweetdeck

Monday marks the 10th anniversary of the first tweet ever to have been sent on the platform Twitter – see below. just setting up my twttr — Jack (@jack) 21 March 2006 Much has been written about Twitter in recent times, In quarter 4 2015, Twitter mentioned that the decline in active users came from both seasonality and its decision to reduce the volume of mail sent to dormant users to bring them back to the service. According to Twitter, the decline in active users was offset by the marketing spending in Q4. Basically, usage is declining and it has ... Read more

Twitter application – donate your characters for charity

Today I came across a clever new twitter application that offers people the chance to donate the remaining characters from their tweets in order to raise awareness of the charity Help for Heroes. It is all part of a wider campaign called https://www.hashtags4heroes.com/. The campaign has been created for the whole month of May (which in PR terms is Military Appreciation Month) to raise awareness for Wounded Warrior Project (WWP) and injured service members. Every time a user tweets during the time period, the application will autofill any unused Twitter characters with messages that help  spread the word about their ... Read more

Promoting campaigns on twitter why not pay with a tweet?

If you are like me I am sure you get messages all the time about clever ways to spread your messages out on the World Wide Web. You will also sadly probably receive lots of spammy messages that ask you do this that to get the most out of twitter and the occasional one on Linked-in. However, a good idea for spreading awareness across a social network is “Pay with a tweet” which is basically an idea that you get something free if you tweet about it on your own account. It sounds a bit spammy I grant you but ... Read more

Tweetdeck sale shows British Entrepreneurs can do it too

So Tweetdeck is reportedly selling its platform to Twitter for $50million. I think this is a really positive sign for both Twitter, and UK entrepreneurs in general, as too often it is the US Silicon Valley-based businesses that manage to secure all of the large backing. We have some truly brilliant minds in this country and this proves it. Tweetdeck, is a brilliant platform which has been developed by people in this country. It is a great tool that allows heavy Twitter users like me to update more than 20 different Twitter accounts regularly. As I have developed my own ... Read more

How reliable do we expect our social networks and tools to be now?

I was reading an interesting post by Patricio Robels this morning on econsultancy entitled: Can brands trust social media platforms? My first thought is not really but does it really matter all that much that they are not 100% reliable. In the post Patricio comments: Upon logging in to Twitter on Monday, I was greeted with the news that I was following nobody and had no followers. So while this was a temporary glitch resolved within a few hours, it wouldn’t have been the end of the world if all was indeed lost. Yet for a brand that has invested ... Read more

Twitter management tools – why did it remove bulk unfollow tools altogether?

For the last nine months I have been working on creating a Twitter management application that added value to the Twitter experience. The application, called Tweasier, is currently in beta testing and has several hundred people using it on a daily basis – I have found their feedback absolutely invaluable and I now recognise the importance of having a beta period. During these nine months I have seen a variety of Twitter applications have their services or features throttled by Twitter and I have been asking myself why? A good example of this was Twitter Karma which allowed the average ... Read more

Tweasier my new Twitter management application launches in Beta

As many of you know for the last six months or so I have been really busy working in online public relations both freelancing for my own clients and working as a digital consultant for the lovely people at Lucre Communications in Leeds. To be honest that’s not all I have been doing, I have also been working late at night, burning the old midnight oil to produce Tweasier which is my Twitter management application. Why have I done this? Well over the last three years or so I have used almost every twitter tool available, apart from some of ... Read more

Twitter on the acquisition trail and here’s why!

So there we all were scratching our heads wondering how Twitter actually made a profit? And then it decided to change its strategy by scouting the world for talent to hire for its new business team to help secure much needed revenue. Well, the announcement was made today that it has acquired Tweetie but I am not surprised at all and I am expecting a few more acquisitions yet. Only last month we were told that an advertising platform was imminent and that is not the only area Twitter has been looking at. Over the last few months I have ... Read more

My Twitter application launches in beta in 7 days

UPDATE: This will now be launching around end of April as we have decided to add a few more features following feedback from some Twitter users. A while back I wrote a post about an internet (fashion) community I am involved with (https://www.thefashionpixie.com/) and I said it was just one of several web projects that I was undertaking as well as my usual digital pr and social media consultancy. Well I have been working hard during the last five months on a Twitter application and the wait is finally almost over. We are planning to launch the product (Tweasier) in ... Read more

The top ten ReTweet measurement tools

Many of us working in the world of digital public relations and social media are often asked by our clients to measure how effective our online campaigns have been. This can be done in various ways across different platforms but I thought I would share one way for the platform Twitter. To be honest fans and followers aren’t accurate indicators of a user’s influence anymore as both can now be purchased or users can use one of the many autofollow tools Wadds highlighted in a post recently. There has been a lot of procrastination over whether you should even look ... Read more
