PR Companies in Leeds battle it out with local journalists at charity pub quiz

I posted a while ago about a quiz I was organising to help raise money for a couple of charities. Well last night all the magic came together and we held the quiz at The Cosmopolitan Hotel in Leeds. It was held in the memory of the former business editor of the Yorkshire Evening Post Nigel Scott. The reason I wanted it to do it was Nigel was a great guy and someone that made us lowly PR people feel at ease. He truly was the nicest journalist I have ever spoken too. I felt an event that brought all ... Read more

How important is social media in the sales process – an interview with Chris Norton

This is an interview with me conducted by sales and motivational speaker and blogger Gavin Ingham, his original post is here. As a sales expert and someone interested in improving lives and businesses in general I strive to ensure that I am doing the best that I can to be at the cutting-edge of what is going on with new selling ideas and strategies. One area that I have some strong opinions about is social media and the uses and abuses of social media. I have shared some of these in previous blogs and will do in the future however ... Read more

BBC Correspondent Nick Robinson loses the plot and becomes a YouTube hit

This has amused me this morning, BBC correspondent Nick Robinson was filming a link for the BBC on Wednesday when a protestor decided to put his placard right behind him on a live link to the studio. Sadly Nick didn’t like this very much and lost his temper and it has become a bit of a YouTube hit. He has posted about it yesterday on his blog which says: If you were watching the 6 O’Clock News last night, you may have seen a “Troops Out” sign on a large pole being waved behind my head. I have a confession. ... Read more

Poll: How many times should people share links to their articles on Twitter?

I have seen quite a few people online sharing the same links to their articles on Twitter recently. I have even seen some people using links or articles they have written a long, long time ago. I understand why people do this, because since 2006 when Twitter launched more and more people have joined and the noise on the platform has become greater resulting in some key tweets being missed by people. So people feel the need to share the same links time and again. I am trying to determine what the etiquette is in 2010 for sharing links to ... Read more

How reliable do we expect our social networks and tools to be now?

I was reading an interesting post by Patricio Robels this morning on econsultancy entitled: Can brands trust social media platforms? My first thought is not really but does it really matter all that much that they are not 100% reliable. In the post Patricio comments: Upon logging in to Twitter on Monday, I was greeted with the news that I was following nobody and had no followers. So while this was a temporary glitch resolved within a few hours, it wouldn’t have been the end of the world if all was indeed lost. Yet for a brand that has invested ... Read more

Is it still right in 2010 for businesses to block the use of social networks?

I was presenting at the Wealth Enhancement Forum last week on social media and the business opportunity it presents. I was asked several months back if I would do it and I said I would be happy to share my thoughts with the group. I managed to get about five slides into a presentation before the quick fire round started and the questions started to come thick and fast. I found it extremely interesting to hear this group of wealthy business owners talking about social networks and the varying ways in which they or their staff use them. I will ... Read more
