High street brand scooped by Prohibition

Apologies for the blatant self promotion here in today’s blog but this is just a little nod to my team at Prohibition who have just scooped another major high street brand. I am sure you saw our little announcement this morning in The Drum or on Prolific North. But in case you didn’t I am delighted to reveal that we have managed to secure the national formal menswear retailer, Suit Direct. The popular fashion brand has more than 15 stores across the UK and sells suits, shirts, jackets, belts, shoes and many other men’s accessories. We have been appointed to ... Read more

Leeds PR Agency Prohibition picks up its first ever award

So I have had a lot going on recently, following my company re-brand and last night the Prohibition team ventured out into Leeds to the Pride Awards to see if we could pick up an award or two. I have been to the awards a number of times before and picked up a few but this was the first one for Prohibition and it felt quite nice. We were shortlisted for “Best Use of Digital” and “Best Use of Social Media” for the team’s launch of Student Wire which is now recognised as one of the UK’s leading student magazines. According to the ... Read more

Agency Evolution: My Agency has changed it’s name

I am proud to announce here on my personal blog that after a very busy year my team and I have changed our PR agency name to Prohibition to reflect the recent account wins and growth in team size. I am sure a few of you spotted the change to my company website earlier this week, you can get the full official news story here on the website.   This year has been the best in the five years I have been running the company and I am extremely proud of the team I have pulled together. We have been shortlisted for ... Read more

Regional newspapers can still win the content war

Earlier this week, I attended the PR and Disruption conference at the London College of Communication as I was personally invited by a good friend of mine Simon Collister. There were a number of interesting presentations including one from Nic Newman, digital strategist and research associate, at Reuters Journalism Institute who discussed the growth of multiple channel news sources and he highlighted the new challenges that the modern news content providers faced. Nic offered a fascinating insight into how the internal landscapes of newsrooms had changed recently and how the BBC amongst many has adapted including how its internal news team actually ... Autotrader to publish its last ever print version

In case you missed it Trader Media Group has completed its transition into an online digital business with the publishing of the final editions of its magazines, including Autotrader, on 28 June 2013. It truly is a sad day and I won’t know what to read in the doctor’s surgery next time I am there. This is just the latest publisher in a recent trend to move all of its activities to digital platforms. It is no secret that the print industry has faced a turbulent recent history as they deal with new challenges in the form of print publishing and ... My high flying horror at the weekend!

Last Sunday 28th April, my wife and I were at a car boot sale at Ripley cricket club, near my home town of Harrogate and we experienced something that pretty much terrified me as a parent. You may have heard about the inflatable slide incident on the news or in the newspapers. Six people were injured including a number of young children but thankfully none of them were seriously hurt. At the time I was with my two young children and I suddenly heard a surrounding gasp from everyone in the field. When I looked up to my horror, this ... Read more

Elton slams Roy Hodgson live on stage in Harrogate

Yesterday, I went to the first ever open air concert staged in the Great Yorkshire Show Grounds in Harrogate. My wife and I went to see Elton John, he was brilliant, performing more than two hours of his back catalogue including the majority of his biggest hits and some of his other more select album choices. I wasn’t sure about attending the event as I like his music but I didn’t know what to expect really – I am more of a dance music fan. As it was the first concert of its size in Harrogate, I was interested to ... Read more

The earth moves for me and Facebook goes nuts

Happy New year to you all, last night was a bit stranger than normal, not just because my whole family are currently struggling with one of those nasty winter viruses but because we experienced an earthquake sat at home. It was just after 9pm and I was sat up watching something on TV when the whole house began to shake, the cupboards started to make rattling noises. It lasted for a about five seconds and felt like a huge train was driving past right under our house. As soon as we felt it we knew it was a tremor but ... Read more

David Beckham out of the world cup a PR win or Fail?

So we heard late last night the news that we all feared David Beckham isn’t going to make it to the World Cup in South Africa. As a proud England fan who has watched our team stutter and start through various tournaments I have to admit I am not surprised we have our first big absence. We should all be used to it by now. It was the last two big tournaments that taught us all about the famous metatarsal following injuries to Beckham and Wayne Rooney. There is no doubt David Beckham has given his all for England out ... Read more

Nastala Crazy – An interesting video with a slightly weird twist

My friends down at Rising Digital have just published one of their artists latest videos which is worth a watch. Nastla’s crazy is much more mainstream than the usual dance music Seb and the guys distribute but the video is very interesting. It actually reminds me of a cross between Monty Python’s Flying Circus and Michael Jackson’s Leave me Alone – have a look and see what you think.
