High street brand scooped by Prohibition

Apologies for the blatant self promotion here in today’s blog but this is just a little nod to my team at Prohibition who have just scooped another major high street brand. I am sure you saw our little announcement this morning in The Drum or on Prolific North. But in case you didn’t I am delighted to reveal that we have managed to secure the national formal menswear retailer, Suit Direct. The popular fashion brand has more than 15 stores across the UK and sells suits, shirts, jackets, belts, shoes and many other men’s accessories. We have been appointed to ... Read more

Revolutionary new technology launched by Ikea

I may be a bit late to the party on this one but I watched this clip and it made me laugh about how technology obsessed we have all become – me included obviously. The concept of the video is that Ikea has launched a new book which is so technology advanced but really it’s just their good old catalogue. What’s funny is they go through all of the amazing features it has and how you can scroll through it. I think this is a clever little content stunt for what is essentially just the launch of a new catalogue ... Read more

Yorkshire’s most romantic hotel–OX Pasture Hall

Last weekend I was kindly invited to Ox Pasture Hall to sample the hotel and see what I thought about it and the surrounding area. As I have been blogging for almost eight years now, I do get offered a lot of things to review on the blog but sadly due to time restraints, I don’t tend to take them up very often, but this really seemed like an interesting offer as the hotel looked stunning online. The hotel itself is set in more than seventeen acres of beautiful gardens situated in the stunning North York Moors National Park, which ... Read more

Best burgers in Leeds – Almost Famous

To celebrate the Prohibition team being shortlisted for the CIPR’s Outstanding Consultancy award we decided to take the team out for a fancy burger and a drink or two. We were looking for somewhere local in Leeds that was a little bit different and decided to pay a visit to the new Almost Famous in Leeds. I believe there are already a couple in Manchester and Liverpool. I had taken the time to carefully read the entire menu carefully as it was packed with mouth watering burger concoctions like the “Johnny Mac” which has a deep fried Mac & Cheese ... Read more

A tweet shop the official video

A few weeks ago you may remember I wrote about a Twitter shop my team and I at Prohibition created to help create some online chatter at a construction trade show. Well in that article I promised you I would share the video, well here it is. This wasn’t created to showcase the success of social media, rather to highlight the trade show itself but it should help give you a feel for what we were able to deliver for our client.

Is it wrong to steal an agency’s idea if you pay for it?

Yesterday John Owens wrote an article on PR week about a new tech start-up company who are on the lookout for a clever creative PR idea which they will pay £3,000 for. Bizarrely though TransferWise, the company in question, have already lined up an agency to implement the idea. They just need someone else to come up with it. This different take on things sparked a number of opinions in the PR industry, most of which resulted in the company apologising for any offence that they may have caused to the agencies that put their heart and soul into campaign ... Digital journalism is alive but is digital PR?

Today the BBC announced that it is cutting almost 500 jobs but reinvesting in a further 195 posts to back what it calls ‘digital journalism’. So I think we can safely say that digital journalism is where the BBC believes the future of that industry is headed. Several years have now passed since the birth of Web 2.0 and the social media bandwagon has rolled out of many towns because most of us are now used to using social media. The media industry has also adapted – albeit slowly – its practices to use it as a credible source/resource to ... Read more

If you are missing le tour in Yorkshire you must try this (Video)

A couple of weeks ago the world’s biggest cycling race The Tour De France  hit my home town of Harrogate. It was nothing short of the best event I have ever attended in Yorkshire, as my town was taken over by the world’s media and cycling enthusiasts from across the world. We had people from anywhere and everywhere and the region just turned into one huge street party. With the streets being closed down, everyone was walking and partying the atmosphere was brilliant. I miss it a little bit if I am honest, so to help you and I get ... Read more

Video of the week: The Empty Car Convoy

Here’s another nice stunt video from the automotive industry that gets a product benefit across. A self-driving car is something we can all see in the future (not too far away if Google have anything to do with it) but Hyundai already have it! Instead of talking the talk they went straight in and walked the walk by making this clip. Its slogan ‘smart technology to care for you, because we care for you’ might sound a tad cheesy but they couldn’t have chosen a better way to prove it. This ludicrous video shows drivers jumping off moving cars and ... Read more

Tweet 4 Pies– a tweet shop for one of my clients

What can be better than a free pie in exchange for a tweet? So this week the Prohibition team and I have been out and about working our buts off. I was over at CIH conference in Manchester on Wednesday supporting our client Keepmoat on their stand. To help a brand achieve standout at the event can be a tough call at these kind of large scale events. So we sat down together and decided to create the show’s first-ever “tweet-shop”, where delegates could pay for pies, (we went with a Brazilian football theme obviously) football merchandise including a pretty ...
