The Decline of PR Degrees in the UK: Understanding the Factors Behind the Trend

‍In recent years, there has sadly been a noticeable decline in the number of undergraduate PR degree courses and graduates in the UK. This trend has raised concerns among industry professionals and academics alike. I was a PR Graduate myself back in 2000 and then I was invited back to teach digital PR and social media at Leeds Beckett University to the undergrads and Masters students. However, I was prompted to write about this as Leeds Beckett closed its PR Degree earlier this year and I have seen quite a few people talking about it on Twitter. Insert examples: #preducation ... How Share of Search Can Help You Measure Your PR Impact

I was down south in sunny Brighton last week at PR Week’s annual PR360 conference and there were a number of talks that got me thinking and one of them was about clear measurement. Measurement is the big issue that so many marketers and PRs often struggle with and it is one of the reasons I have implemented a new AMEC-based measurement product at my agency to ensure we are at the top of our game when it comes to measurement. As PR professionals, we know how important it is to measure the impact of your campaigns on your brand awareness, ... Read more

The Impact of the PR Crisis on Business and Reputation

We live in a hyper-connected world, where news travels fast, and social channels amplify even the smallest incidents. While this has advantages, it has also made businesses more vulnerable than ever. Today, a PR crisis can quickly snowball into a major issue for businesses, damaging their online reputation and bottom line. This significantly impacts a company’s brand image, customer trust, and stakeholder relationships. In addition, the effects can be felt for years because “the internet does not forget.” In this article, I will try to explore crisis triggers and the impact of PR crises on real-life businesses. Hopefully, you’ll pick ... Read more

How to Use ChatGPT to Streamline Your PR Processes

In the last four months, I have seen a ton of clever marketing and comms people writing about the effect that ChatGPT is going to have on our sector and it prompted me to write something myself that would help people who don’t know everything about it just yet. Now as a tech PR blogger and all round geek I have used it a fair bit, and tested it on various bits and pieces and it is amazing for giving you a helping hand and I think you will be surprised by the results. Public relations involves the strategic use ... Read more

How to Create an Effective PR Strategy [Template Included]

Despite the age, size, and nature of your brand or business, there’s one observation you must have made by now. A brand’s reputation and customers’ perception and attitudes towards it are key to its success and sustainability. You might also know that the two are vital aspects of good public relations (PR). And with good PR, you can easily win over your target audiences. However, what you might not have established is the specific PR activities and practices that will positively impact your brand’s PR campaigns; how and when to execute them. To resolve this, you’ll need to create an ... Read more

Black Sheep Brewery partners with Maisie Adam to challenge stereotypes of cask beer

I wanted to share this little video from a campaign we have just launched with our client Black Sheep Brewery. We partnered with comedian Maisie Adam to create an interesting “Mean Tweets” style video piece about cask beer. The idea was we wanted to dispel some of the common misconceptions that surround cask beer, and tackle the cask trolls, head-on and we got some amusing results. I mean what did we expect with the social web. Maisie has done numerous comedy shows like Mock the Week, Have I Got News for You, and 8 Out of 10 Cats.  Despite being the ... Read more

My little Leeds PR Agency scoops two PRCA Dare Awards

So last week, it was a rather strange but rather cheerful Tuesday for team Prohibition as we attended the PRCA Dare awards for the first time ever last week. After lots of pontificating on my part we finally managed to sign up and join the PRCA this year. It is a great organisation, I just hadn’t got around to joining. So we also decided to enter and I am pleased to reveal that we won two awards – ‘Medium Consultancy of the Year’ and the ‘B2B Award’ for our dedicated B2B content campaign with our lovely client Fentimans. Taking home the ... Read more

Faithless remix Insomnia to make it a sleep track

I saw this campaign recently and thought it was brilliant, it combined my two favourite things PR and dance music. Faithless are amazing and I have seen them on a number of occasions but this time their biggest track of all was used for something very different. Below is a video from behind the scenes at the recording of Insomnia but this one was for a remix as the blurb states: Blissful Sleep Remix – a new version of Faithless’ 90s dance anthem, Insomnia, designed to lull listeners into a deep, restorative sleep in 27 minutes. Brought to you by ... Read more

Prohibition PR Turns 10 Years Old

Unbelievably Prohibition is now officially 10 years old – how the hell did that happen?🎆 We held a bit of a special party at the weekend for the team to celebrate a huge decade in PR for us all. We owe a lot of this success to my good friend and brilliant business partner and creative powerhouse Will Ockenden and together over the years, with the help of our senior team, we have continued to push to grow all without growing too quickly. We have some fantastic people working with us right now (some have been with us the whole ... Read more

Prohibition scoops Gold at CIPR Awards 2021

Last Weds I got the team together for the first time in ages to share in the excitement of the first CIPR Pride Awards for two years. The last 18 months have been tough for my agency as it has for many others and every business in the country. We were built on solid foundations but we certainly lost some revenue in 2020 and on one occasion last April we lost around 80% of revenue and projects within 48hrs and that was a very dark time. It took a lot of tough decision-making and hard work to pull ourselves out ... Read more
