Celebrating reading with the Great Book Migration

Over the last few weeks I have been working on an online campaign to help promote the joy of reading for my client Ultralase. As part of the campaign we have launched the Great Book Migration by leaving 100 books, from various genres and authors all around the country. These have been left anywhere interesting from large international airports through to local park benches and we are tracking the books using a number of methods including using the hashtag #bookmigrate. Facebook’s Olympics social media portal but can we write about it?

So this week Facebook launched a special portal called Explore London 2012 to give users more direct access to the athletes of the games. It has been set up to enable the athletes to speak to the fans easier – this will allow entrants to share updates and images from the games. Something which should be applauded – anything that opens up access to any huge event is brilliant in my opinion. According to Techcrunch the project has been in development for more than 18 months. Pizza roulette is a clever and fun idea that drove sales through the roof

Just watch this creative video, hat tip to Chris Dale for the article on PR Examples. I love this campaign – a fun idea always works best on social media. It kind of reminds me of the Will it Blend campaign but this feels like it gets customers and fans more involved as we all have to film ourselves eating the rather scary pizza. I love pizza and although I think this would be great fun – you do run the risk of ruining your Friday night takeaway. It’s  a simple idea that has been executed beautifully.

Elton slams Roy Hodgson live on stage in Harrogate

Yesterday, I went to the first ever open air concert staged in the Great Yorkshire Show Grounds in Harrogate. My wife and I went to see Elton John, he was brilliant, performing more than two hours of his back catalogue including the majority of his biggest hits and some of his other more select album choices.
