Twitter Tool – Updating Twitter from Microsoft Outlook

If you are a regular Twitter user, you may well be interested to hear that there is a new tool available which means you can check and update your Twitter status directly from Microsoft Outlook – so no more switching from one site to another. I have just tested it and it appears to work just fine and it’s actually really useful. Interestingly, it singles out messages to just you too, which is a really useful function – I had spotted most of my personal messages but there were a few in there that I didn’t know about. Thanks, to ... Read more

Why I have backed Portugal at the Euros this summer!

Apologies to all of you who aren’t football fans but as I love football I thought I should do a quick post on what I think of the latest European championships. I have watched all the games so far and I am quite happy as I placed a £5 bet on Portugal to win the whole tournament last week (before it started). I know they haven’t got a world class striker but I just think this year could be their year. They are superb technically and they hold the ball really well and most importantly they have some very exciting ... Read more

Social media in plain English

Here is another new and clever video from Common Craft explaining social media in plain English. This video is a follow on from several others they have done before and is useful if you have no idea what social media is all about.

I finally get the opportunity to work in the dance music industry

Those of you who know me, will know I am massive dance music fan, and way back when when I lived in London, I used to DJ house music in several bars and clubs across the city to help ends meet. Well, it seems I have managed to combine my weekend activities with my day-to-day work as we (Wolfstar) have won the contract to run a social media campaign for Chris Lake a world renowned DJ and dance music producer. In one of my many roles I will become an author on Chris’s blog along with a few others, who ... Read more

Don’t Panic’s Guide to Social Media

I know I haven’t posted in a while, this is because I managed to take my family away on a holiday to Tenerife. I got back at 4am on Wednesday morning and got back to work on Thursday morning albeit very tired. All I can say is I was extremely busy almost immediately catching up and then heading straight down to London to attend Don’t Panic’s Guide to Social Media on Friday and then a new business meeting on Friday afternoon. I attended the conference with my colleague Stuart Bruce and it proved to be very interesting with some useful ... Read more

MySpace starts a trend by being the first to bring down its walls

This morning it’s being reported by BBC News that MySpace is set to allow users to make their information available to other websites. That includes items such as photos, video, public profile information, friends’ lists and text. It will soon let its members share the information with Yahoo, Twitter, eBay and Photobucket. Traditionally social networks like Facebook, MySpace and Bebo have locked users into their own site and made sure the content was properly guarded to ensure people kept coming back which to a certain extent has worked. Interestingly, MySpace’s Chris DeWolfe has confirmed he is happy to work with ... Read more

Is it really the digital frontier, PR 2.0 or just plain old public relations?

In my last post I said I was going to be venturing out into the warm spring air to attend a PR event at Leeds Metropolitan University in my role as social media coordinator for the CIPR. The speaker booked to explain the world of digital communications was Rob Brown formally of Mccann Erickson and now Managing Director for Manchester based Staniforth PR. I liked Rob, he had an interesting and amusing take on the way digital communications has changed how PR practitioners go about their duties. I liked his amusing YouTube videos and he also had some pretty interesting ... Read more

Facebook launches Lexicon a new service to analyse its trends

Ever wondered who is saying what and how often on Facebook? No, well neither have I really, but Facebook has launched a new service which now shows you anyway. Lexicon is described as a tool to follow ‘language trends across Facebook’. It looks at the usage of words and phrases on profiles, groups and event walls.   For example, you can enter “blog, PR” to compare the usage of these two words on its walls. Like I have done on the right here for an example. Users can enter up to five terms with each being a word or two-word phrase. ... Read more

Public relations and the digital frontier

Tonight I am going to be busy attending a CIPR event entitled ‘PR and the digital Frontier’. It’s being held at Leeds Metropolitan University and I am going in my role as the social media coordinator for the CIPR in Yorkshire and Lincolnshire. My colleague Beth Kay and I will also be going to catch up with a few former colleagues and hopefully say hello to our friend Richard Bailey. The speaker who will be discussing all things social media will be Rob Brown formerly of McCann Eriksson. Interestingly, while on the topic of CIPR. The CIPR Facebook group I ... Read more

Gadget – Numark turntable with Ipod Doc launches in UK

I haven’t written about DJ gadgets yet because I was waiting for something worthwhile to come along. I am huge believer in big brand names in this industry as the good brands (Pioneer, Technics) usually make the best products. I have worked with most of the turntables and CD turntables available whilst working as a club/house DJ (moonlighting on the side) during my time in London and the quality levels of these can vary greatly. This can be difficult if you are used to mixing with a strong heavy plate on your turntable and then you go to play on ... Read more
