An interview with Chris Lake

I am a bit tired today following a busy night at a client event in Huddersfield. For the event we combined my two favourite things dance music and social media. I booked a producer and DJ that I have mentioned several times  before on my blog Chris Lake. We decided to do an interview live on the internet before the gig from his hotel room using Kyte. For me the interview was interesting just to hear Chris’ perception on how dance music is changing and what affect social media is having on the industry. To be honest the quality of ... Read more

Wolfstar holds celebratory party in London

Well back in the office today after a busy night in London with the team and the Rt Hon Hilary Benn. We held a party at the Cinnamon Club to celebrate our latest award win with some of our social media friends, clients and a few potential clients too. Beer, wine and food were all on tap and we had a huge Twitter wall in action behind the bar so people could share their comments and find each other, which lead to some interesting Tweets. My favourite tweets came from rich_trenholm of CNET fame, several of which are completely unrepeatable ... Read more

My quick tip on how to get a cheap loan at just 2.9% today

Ok I admit this is an unusual post for me, as it is off topic for once, but it is something I have found very useful so I wanted to share it. If you are looking to borrow some money at the moment you will be looking around at loans of between 8-10% at the cheapest. However, I have a route around that. All you need to do is enrol for a Virgin Credit Card. It looks like any normal credit card but it has the longest (at the moment) interest free period of 16 months – which isn’t bad ... Read more

What Twitter is not

As Twitter continues to become more and more mainstream it seems everyone now has opinion on what Twitter is and how it should work. It seems to have been in the Daily Telegraph every day of the last fortnight. Anyway, I have just read another brilliant post from Dave Fleet on what Twitter is not. Mr Fleet states it isn’t: Essential to every company’s success, or right for every company; Mandatory for every company out there The first thing you should do online; Going to turn around your bad business model; Going to fix your shoddy product; A silver bullet ... Social media should be driven by PR people

I have been reading lots of posts about the recent SEO and PR debate which has been raging on Twitter and Mr Hallam’s blog. For once, I have to agree with Stuart Bruce that public relations is about reputation and the management of reputation. This debate got me thinking about another battle which is taking place out there in the various boardrooms across the globe and that is the battle for the emerging budgets for social media campaigns. Digital agencies are well prepared for the battle as they already have SEO experts, CSS designers, web developers and digital marketers on ... Read more

Analyse your swearing on Twitter using Cursebird

Do you swear on Twitter? If you do, why not use this new service to find out how often? Cursebird is hilarious, we have been testing it out in the office today. Insert your Twitter name and it tells you how much you have sworn on Twitter. Unfortunately, as you all know I am an angel (Joke) and so I have never sworn on Twitter. However, my colourful friend Mr @JEDHALLAM likes to Tweet when he has been drinking. In fact, when we ran his name through this site he came out as a Gangsta Rapper – see below. I ... Read more

be-at.tv – new online dance music community is launched

A new online dance music community has been launched which uses a lot of web 2.0 functions to give its users a much more real clubbing experience. be-at.tv opens with several different DJ windows to choose from and these are likely to increase over the coming months. A user can select their favourite DJ and then click on a particular set they want to view. Once the user has chosen their set it then opens up four new windows and plays the DJ’s set in full. I have watched a DJ who I like called Dirty South and his set ... Read more

Top 50 Twitter users in Yorkshire

Twitter has been in the media far too much recently as it continues to become much more mainstream. There are now an estimated 5,000-10,000 new followers joining Twitter every day. My colleague Paul Crouch has been compiling some information on the Twitter users from Yorkshire for a project he is working on and I thought it could be useful to people looking for Yorkshire users. The list he has generated has more than 500 users, so I have just taken the top 50 as of today. Please be aware this isn’t a definitive list and the situation changes by the ... Read more

Facebook – to add or not to add?

Do you share your Facebook details with clients and new business prospects or do you prefer to use linked-in for professional contacts? My colleague Rebecca Caddy wrote a post a while ago about how she used Facebook. Becca comments: “I don’t want to be the only person not tagged in certain photos or be unable to write ranting statuses, just because I’m anxious about what others think. Because at the end of the day, that’s who I am. I see Facebook as very different to anything else because it’s such a cross section of all aspects of your personality, friendship ... Read more

Word-of-mouth vouchers are saving Pizza Express

We all know that we are now locked in a recession, negative news everyday and Mr Peston has officially become the voice of disaster. However, I can’t help feeling that one business has taken the bull by its horns to beat the credit crunch. Pizza Express has been running 2 for 1 voucher schemes since late last year and every time I pass one or pay a visit, it always seems to be packed out. In fact, it has become so successful that other restaurant chains which are feeling the crunch have started their own schemes too. Prezzo, Pitcher and ... Read more
