UK energy users switching companies – I don’t blame them

According to a new report out today, more than five million people have switched their energy supplier in the last year. All I can say is – are you surprised? I’m not, these companies seem to be milking us more and more each year. British Gas made record profits in the last twelve months and recently prices went up again by 15%. OK, I know that wholesale gas prices do rise and then the companies have to put their costs up to cover this. However, I don’t understand why when they go down (which they will do again in June/July ... Read more

A relaxing week away in the Yorkshire Dales – my recommendation

I have just arrived back at Wolfstar HQ this morning and whilst running through my emails I felt I better write something about my relaxing week off. Last week, I decided to have some time off and take my wife and little boy away for the week. So we booked a trip to Hackness Grange in the Yorkshire Dales as it looked quite peaceful. It’s situated about 15 minutes drive from Scarborough in North Yorkshire and about 25 mins from Whitby. Unfortunately, we didn’t get brilliant weather all the time but we did get to enjoy some fantastic food, wine ... Read more

HD point and shoot camera launched by Panasonic

I know I write a lot about social media and public relations but I also have a huge interest in gadgets, football and lots of other topics, which you are already likely to know if you read my  other posts on the EFH Broadband blog or Wolfstar blog. So here is another gadget story which interested me on the wires this morning. My friends at Tech Digest have reported that Panasonic has launched a 10 Mega-pixel camera (FX500)which in itself is pretty impressive for the every day user but it also has a big added extra. The really exciting bit ... Read more

PC World’s customer service is rubbish but ACER’s is brilliant

OK, I recently posted about my HP Laptop and promised to update you on any interesting escapades which occur whilst I try to get it repaired. Firstly, I would like to point out that my colleague Seb managed to send his ACER tablet off and have it back within four days. It arrived this morning – they even cleaned it thoroughly to make it look brand new. What’s more they added a new DVD drive as unbeknownst to him that was faulty too. So to ACER’s customer service team, I salute you for a brilliant repair job and excellent customer ... Read more

CIPR Yorkshire & Lincolnshire launch Facebook Group

In my new role as social media coordinator for CIPR Yorkshire and Lincolnshire, I have advised that initially it creates an open Facebook group to share more information with its members and non-members. To be honest, it’s not the most exciting item of social media/group to look at just yet (we only have 12 members as I write) as we still need some good official CIPR content to be added but it’s a start and it’s an organic thing, which means we can all begin to post items and provide updates to each other. The group is open to anyone ... Read more

HP Laptop is great – shame it doesn’t actually work

After much deliberating it seems I have to take my beloved HP laptop back to the shop. I currently use a HP Pavilion dv9000 and it was specifically chosen by us as its an award winning laptop with a lot of hidden added extras. As we (Wolfstar) work in social media it made sense to buy a laptop of good quality which could do several things. So we created a very specific brief as to what type of laptop we required. It had to have a decent processor, a webcam, remote control and of course be HD ready etc etc. ... Read more

Social media uptake is slow with UK advertisers but surprisingly budget isn’t the problem

I have seen a few interesting articles this morning reporting that social media hasn’t been utilised as much as was expected by UK advertisers. It seems that British advertisers are still lagging behind those of the US who have been exploiting social networking effectively. My post yesterday referred to me being approached and that was actually by a US company – so they may have a point that US companies are doing it more. That said, we have been approached by several UK companies attempting outreach programmes recently and some have been done well and some not so well. The ... Read more

A brilliant spy gadget and becoming an international man of mystery

I know what you’re thinking – why the title? Well, two reasons firstly because its tenuously linked to James Bond – I realise it’s really Austin Powers and extremely sad – and secondly because of the gadget which I had to write about as it made me both laugh and cry at the same time. I will start with the gadget. If you take a look at the picture to the right it looks like a normal usual radio alarm clock right – Err WRONG. This is a radio alarm clock with a difference. This one has a built in ... Read more

Friendfeed is it just another social networking tool?

Well not a day goes by that we don’t seem to be sent a new social networking tool to test out at Wolfstar and no sooner have we have all started using Doplr and Twitter in our daily lives and along comes another service called Friendfeed. FriendFeed claims it enables us to keep up-to-date on the web pages, photos, videos and music that our friends and family are sharing  giving us a way to discuss interesting information amongst friends. As with any social networking tool you can invite your friends from your email accounts and your Facebook profile. You can ... Read more

Extreme street football video – supplied by a friend

I have just received the attached video by email, which Seb and I thought was very cool. A big thanks goes to Mr Justin McKeown for supplying it and brightening up my day. I always like to see football being played well – probably because I play like Bambi on ice. None of us can actually decide if it’s CGI or not – I am guessing it is. Check it out, as it’s very well put together, so you can appreciate the skill even if you aren’t a big football fan. Enjoy.
