Chris Lake and his team are now blogging

The team blog from Chris Lake’s label, Rising Music, has been developing quickly and includes posts from the man himself. My good friend Sebastian is helping Chris build a number of useful social media channels and the blog is already providing an interesting insight into the world of being a DJ. It features back stage videos, new tracks from Chris and other DJs on the label, and links to other sites of interest – including this one. If you like everything that is dance music from funky piano tracks through to dirty techy electro stompers – I would recommend you ... Read more

dot-com crash 2.0?

Rufus Jay has written an article in this week’s Marketing Week that has raised some questions as to whether social networks will ever raise any real money. He points out that although YouTube is huge in popularity and quickly becoming synonymous with user generated films, it’s still not really making much profit and this could soon mean we see a new dot.com crash. Google, paid a whopping £853m to buy YouTube back in October 2006 but it’s only expecting to make £100m from advertising this year. Other sites have also reported problems too with News Corp reluctantly reporting that revenue ... Read more

Why doesn’t Google rank itself 10 out of 10?

Today Sam Oakely and I were having a little chuckle in the office at Google’s page ranking system. You can have it as part of your browser if you have the Google toolbar. It’s a pretty useful tool which gives you a ranking out of 10 for each blog/web page. This can be a useful guideline as a starter and the criteria changes regularly resulting in the less important sites being down graded etc. Currently, this blog is 4/10 which isn’t bad but isn’t great – note to self must work harder! Wikipedia describes the page ranking system as follows: ... Read more

Star Wars Gym – Something to cheer you up

Todd Defren made my morning today when I started reading his latest post. Unfortunately, he has just had to have an operation on his shoulder so he is recuperating at home and one of his friends sent him a video to cheer him up. Now I am a big Star Wars fan, so the video below made me laugh until I cried – if you fancy cheering up check it out. I hope you get well soon Todd.

Coldplay in the top ten artists using social media

Robin Goad at Hitwise has just revealed the list of the hottest bands in the UK last month (June 08). The list is apparently based on the top 50 band/artist searches sending traffic to Hitwise’s social networking category. Hitwise recently expanded this to include all of the usual suspects such as Facebook, Bebo, YouTube, MySpace, the band’s homepage and Wikipedia. The list makes for interesting reading as the majority of the acts aren’t exactly all mainstream, making me think that bands, DJs and artists can really benefit from using effective social media campaigns. The list reads as follows: 1. Coldplay ... Read more

Is it worthwhile targeting marketing and PR bloggers for your outreach campaigns?

I have read an interesting post earlier this week about Dave Fleet, a public relations professional based in Toronto, who was recently targeted by Molson a beer company who were looking to hold an event with free beer readily available. Dave says the reason why Molson approached him was as they put it “to get to know folks in this space”. I actually think that’s very honest as there are a lot of companies and brands who don’t know anyone in the social media world and honesty is always the best policy. He describes their approach as working for the ... Read more

Seb leaves for pastures new

I have been working at Wolfstar for about seven months now and Sebastian has been here since the very beginning. In fact, he worked with me at my old agency Trimedia in Leeds which is kind of why we have been working together again more recently. Seb and I are good friends outside of work and so it’s with regret that I see him leave to join the dance music industry. I know he loved working here but he has been offered a job which he simply couldn’t have turned down. I will miss our creative banter (well mine) and ... Read more

Junior designer wanted at Raw Creative

Our sister agency Raw Creative is looking for a fresh faced and talented designer to join their team and help their small agency grow even further. They are looking for enthusiasm, so they want somebody who jumps out of bed on a morning and makes a good cup of tea – only kidding. This person will work alongside the senior designer and on their own, so the ability to see a project through from concept to artwork would be ideal. The candidate will need a degree or equivalent in graphic design, and experience using Quark Xpress, Illustrator and Photoshop is ... Read more
