Coldplay in the top ten artists using social media

Robin Goad at Hitwise has just revealed the list of the hottest bands in the UK last month (June 08). The list is apparently based on the top 50 band/artist searches sending traffic to Hitwise’s social networking category. Hitwise recently expanded this to include all of the usual suspects such as Facebook, Bebo, YouTube, MySpace, the band’s homepage and Wikipedia.

The list makes for interesting reading as the majority of the acts aren’t exactly all mainstream, making me think that bands, DJs and artists can really benefit from using effective social media campaigns.

The list reads as follows:

1. Coldplay (New!)
2. Jonas Brothers (43)
3. Pendulum (1)
4. Mgmt (New!)
5. Elliot Minor (6)
6. Basshunter (New!)
7. Tristan Spencer (New!)
8. Gabriella Cilmi (9)
9. Ting Tings (2)
10. Foo Fighters (46)
11. Mystery Jets (New!)
12. Mint Royale (New!)
13. You Me At Six (New!)
14. Biffy Clyro (29)
15. Cage the Elephant (8)
16. Rihanna (8)
17. Vampire Weekend (5)
18. Fleet Foxes (New!)
19. Glasvegas (New!)
20. Newton Faulkner (New!)

I spoke to my former colleague Sebastian Mysko today who informed me Chris Lake’s latest video became the 69th most watched video from a musical artist. Not bad in 48 hours. So well done team as I thought it was an interesting insight into Chris’s current Brazilian tour. I know Chris is a strong believer in social media having spoke to him a few times – so no doubt in the next three months we will see climb into this top 20.

Click below to watch the video – all other DJs take note. Social media can engage you better with your fans and help you sell records but only if you use it correctly.
