Viral Campaigns and PR Stunts: The Nivea Stress Test

I found this campaign from Nivea in Germany on a blog that I read and I have to say I love it. I imagine it cost quite a large amount of money but the execution is brilliant. The campaign was created to launch the new Stress Protect Deo from Nivea. Apparently candidates were lured to airports by their mates and were then (unbeknownst to them) identified as suspects of crime to put them through a real life stress test without them knowing. Part-time PR lecturer at Leeds Metropolitan University – wish me luck

A couple of weeks ago, I started a new stage in my career after being invited to become a part-time lecturer on the PR degree at Leeds Metropolitan University. I took the degree BA (Hons) Public Relations myself many years ago, and although I enjoyed a lot of it, there were still certain things I felt could be improved and so I have taken the challenge and decided to take the plunge. HMV: A great example of how NOT to manage an online crisis.

Last week’s Twitter fiasco at HMV gave us all a clear demonstration of how brands should not to act in a crisis. After the sad news that huge numbers of workers were told that they were being made redundant, angry employees, who were still able to access the brand’s Twitter account, used the site to let the world know exactly what was happening to them and this caused huge embarrassment for their bosses and the administrators.
