Prohibition launches online word-of-mouth campaign searching for the next Christmas track

It’s been a busy few months over in the our office, we have scooped a number of new social media accounts and we also have a few new team members who will be revealing themselves to you shortly I expect. I don’t normally cover that many case studies on the blog but I decided recently that I am going to try and do more of this. This is mainly because when I have been speaking at events, people really seem to prick up and listen more at the case study section. I think most people prefer to here about practical ... Read more

Social media consultancy for emerging DJ’s and Producers!

My good friends over at Rising Digital, a social media and word of mouth marketing consultancy which specialises in the music industry, has created a new ‘Lite’ division to help talented artists break into the British market. I know all the guys over there and we have worked together on various projects from time to time. Rising Digital has an impressive roster of clients including the Gorillaz, chart sensation Swedish House Mafia, DJ Mag Top 10 Sander van Doorn, BBC Radio 1’s ‘In new DJs we trust’ Alex Metric, Mercury award winner Ms Dynamite and many more. The new division ... Read more

Nastala Crazy – An interesting video with a slightly weird twist

My friends down at Rising Digital have just published one of their artists latest videos which is worth a watch. Nastla’s crazy is much more mainstream than the usual dance music Seb and the guys distribute but the video is very interesting. It actually reminds me of a cross between Monty Python’s Flying Circus and Michael Jackson’s Leave me Alone – have a look and see what you think.

Pioneer launches the CDJ-2000

The most exciting DJ product to enter the world of DJing in the last ten years was arguably the Pioneer CDJ 1000, well now Pioneer has launched its younger brother with more bells and whistles than ever. These new turntables have a mind blowing array of features and software. I had two CDJ 1000 MK 2’s and I have played extensively on the MK 3s, so I can’t wait to get my hands on these. Duncan one of my good friends over on the Rising Music blog comments: “With one these decks coming in at roughly the price of two ... Read more

YouTube bans music videos – better get a couple in quick then

I am sure you have all heard the latest that YouTube is to remove all of the music video content due to an argument over royalties. A statement from PRS For Music (the body which YouTube is arguing with) stated: “PRS for Music is outraged on behalf of consumers and songwriters that Google has chosen to close down access to music videos on YouTube in the UK. Google has told us they are taking this step because they wish to pay significantly less than at present to the writers of the music on which their service relies, despite the massive ... Read more

My top 25 tracks for a Friday afternoon

One of my favourite journalist bloggers Sally Whittle has tagged Jed, Louise and I. She has challenged us to share our top 25 tracks for a Friday afternoon. Now I have to say I found this really difficult as there is so much good music out there and I have quite an eclectic taste – so to get it all into 25 tracks is quite a challenge. Unfortunately, S-Club and the Fast Food Rockers didn’t make it in this time – sorry Sally. I have added most of these to my a playlist on Spotify, so if you have Spotify on ... Read more

An interview with Chris Lake

I am a bit tired today following a busy night at a client event in Huddersfield. For the event we combined my two favourite things dance music and social media. I booked a producer and DJ that I have mentioned several times  before on my blog Chris Lake. We decided to do an interview live on the internet before the gig from his hotel room using Kyte. For me the interview was interesting just to hear Chris’ perception on how dance music is changing and what affect social media is having on the industry. To be honest the quality of ... Read more

be-at.tv – new online dance music community is launched

A new online dance music community has been launched which uses a lot of web 2.0 functions to give its users a much more real clubbing experience. be-at.tv opens with several different DJ windows to choose from and these are likely to increase over the coming months. A user can select their favourite DJ and then click on a particular set they want to view. Once the user has chosen their set it then opens up four new windows and plays the DJ’s set in full. I have watched a DJ who I like called Dirty South and his set ... Read more

Kyte used to promote music artists on our mobiles

Marketing Magazine has reported that Universal Music has signed a global deal with Web 2.0 service Kyte to develop branded online and mobile sites for its major artists. Universal which has artists like Amy Winehouse, Just Jack and Girls aloud is going to be using the platform to develop interactive entertainment applications to engage better with music fans and to hopefully generate funds from its video content. The artists will be able to use Kyte’s mobile production tools to broadcast live gigs and create on-demand videos, giving their fans special and personal clips. For a quick demo of how Kyte ... Chris Lake: ‘If you knew’ video in HD

Here is a high resolution version of Chris Lake’s (a former client) latest single ‘If you knew’. I am predicting this track to be the biggest of his most recent dance tunes, I reckon it is going to make the difficult crossover into the mainstream charts – so it could be one to watch. Chris is a strong believer in social media and his team use it correctly and now it seems to be paying dividends . The video is in HD using Vimeo and was filmed in my own region of Yorkshire. Keep up the good work guys – ... Read more
