Gadget – Numark turntable with Ipod Doc launches in UK

I haven’t written about DJ gadgets yet because I was waiting for something worthwhile to come along. I am huge believer in big brand names in this industry as the good brands (Pioneer, Technics) usually make the best products. I have worked with most of the turntables and CD turntables available whilst working as a club/house DJ (moonlighting on the side) during my time in London and the quality levels of these can vary greatly. This can be difficult if you are used to mixing with a strong heavy plate on your turntable and then you go to play on ... Read more

A-Space a new social network for James Bond and Jason Bourne

I have just read an interesting article on A-Space which is another new social networking site, which all sounds pretty normal. However, this social networking phenomenon has been created specifically for US secret agents. The site was launched in December by the US assistant deputy director of national intelligence Mike Wertheimer. “It has the capacity to allow 10,000 American spies to exchange tips, recommend useful reading material, plead for help or swap gossip. ‘It’s a way to build the social network for all analysts,’ said Wertheimer. ‘We put more eyes on more problems.’ One reader who didn’t quite agree with ... Myspace was 2006, Facebook was 2007 is Twitter already 2008?

Facebook up until recently has been growing exponentially seeing its figures and worth increase massively. However, in January it was reported that the figures were starting to slow as saturation of Facebook finally started to occur. Facebook has always kept its contact information closed so its users can’t share that information freely which has been well documented. The question is can it really afford to do so in 2008? No matter how we look at it Facebook’s popularity is waning. It appears the novelty factor is starting to wear off. Yes, I know the research says people aren’t going to ... Read more

Useful web tool could save exporting businesses thousands

Helen Scott,4X Currency Corporation,Forward Trading I don’t normally post about my clients but I have made an exception here as I think this new tool is going to be of interest to so many businesses it’s well worth a post. Basically, my client 4X Currency has launched a new service which allows small business to buy any foreign currency online, twelve months before the money needs to actually change hands, which means that if your business has a tight balance sheet, and you need to send money abroad to suppliers etc this could really help you out. The service also ... Read more

Free Premiership football matches streamed live on the internet

I don’t blog that regularly on football but I thought this was worth a quick post. I am a keen Liverpool fan but I love all football and enjoy watching most teams – no matter what level. Usually I have to take the regular journey out to the local pub to watch the best games with friends. However, I think I might now have found the answer to watching my favourite sport whenever it’s on. Games from the Premiership, La Liga and the Italian league and even formula 1 and boxing – it’s all available by following some simple steps. ... Read more

Radiohead launch social networking site

Following the interest in my Jamiroquai post in December, I thought I better keep you informed of any other music acts which have decided to dip their toes into the social networking pool. According to my friends at Tech Digest, Radiohead have launched their own social networking site using Ning. Personally, I prefer Wetpaint but still it’s certainly a step in the right direction. I remember hearing recently that Radiohead put their latest album on the net for free and just asked for donations which I thought that was a pretty ballsy approach and quite pioneering. Anyway, the new site ... Read more

Media relations – an amusing story

I have just read an amusing story about a public relations officer from 02 calling a journalist of a tech publication. It’s a fantastic read and a perfect example of how not to discuss your approach to a journalist with the rest of your colleagues. In this case its because the journalist had been listening to him talking about it for the last five minutes – ouch. I feel his pain – if you have a similar story, feel free to share it….

Social media news rooms – A few examples

This morning I have been doing some research for a large well-known consumer technology client which shall remain nameless. Anyway the research was to look into the many different social media newsrooms which are already out there. A social media newsroom basically offers a lot more to the user than a traditional corporate newsroom. The user can be anyone from a blogger, journalist or just someone interested in the subject matter. A social media newsroom usually provides items such as news releases, photography, RSS feeds, blogs, media coverage, podcasts, vodcasts, tag clouds and lots of sharing and bookmarking tools. I ... Does a team blog reflect a company’s view?

As you will probably already know I work for a social media and public relations consultancy based in Leeds. At work we have a team blog which all the guys here contribute too. In fact, we even have work experience students who also post their own individual items. We  let them do this to ensure they get proper public relations experience and everyone in the team gets to have their own opinions heard. However, recently this has caused me to think – do people think that a team blog is the actual view of the company? Some people may think ... Read more
