Before you book: do you need training, or a free certificate?

Worth saying this before you spend anything. LinkedIn runs its own Marketing Labs, with six certifications covering advertising fundamentals, creative, strategy, measurement and Business Manager. They are free, they are first party, and most of them take about an hour.

If one person wants a badge on their profile, go there. You will not get a better product from us and we would rather tell you than take the booking.

A sixty minute module cannot look at your account, your cost per lead or your CRM. That is the only reason to book a day.

What a live workshop does that a certification cannot: it opens your Campaign Manager, works out where your budget is actually going, finds the tracking that is broken, and rebuilds the audiences with your team in the room. Everything we do runs on your account, your spend and your buyer.

What the day covers

Campaign Manager and account hygiene

Account and Business Manager structure, campaign groups, naming conventions and permissions. Dull, and the reason most accounts become impossible to read after six months. We tidy yours in the session.

What LinkedIn ads actually cost, and what to budget

Benchmarks, what drives your costs up, and how to work out a realistic starting budget for your objective rather than a number somebody picked. Also when the honest answer is that LinkedIn is the wrong channel for what you are selling.

Audience building, matched audiences and retargeting

Job function against job title against seniority, company lists, and the difference between an audience that is precise and one that is simply small. Building matched audiences from your own data, and a retargeting structure that does not annoy the same forty people for a month.

Ad formats and creative

Sponsored content, document ads, video, message and conversation ads, event ads and Thought Leader Ads. What each is genuinely for, what it costs, and where the creative usually fails. Thought Leader Ads get their own block because promoting a person rather than a brand changes the economics.

The Insight Tag, the Conversions API and tracking that survives

Installing and checking the Insight Tag, conversion setup, and server side tracking through the Conversions API. Most accounts we look at have tracking that was set up once and has been quietly wrong since a website release.

Bidding, optimisation and cost per lead

Bid strategies, what to change and what to leave alone, how long to give a campaign before judging it, and the optimisation loop that actually reduces cost per lead rather than just moving spend around.

Attribution, and why Campaign Manager and your CRM disagree

The attribution windows, view through conversions, and the gap between what LinkedIn reports and what your sales team believes. This is the single most common argument in B2B paid media and almost no training covers it. We give your team a defensible position rather than a fight.

Auditing what you are already running

We go through your live campaigns on screen, together, and write the fixes down. If you have never run anything, we build the first campaign structure instead.

What LinkedIn ads cost in the UK

Nobody in this market publishes this, which is odd, because it is the first question every marketing manager asks. These are current published benchmark ranges rather than our own client data, and your numbers will differ by sector, seniority and objective.

Metric Typical UK range What moves it
Cost per click £4 to £12 Seniority of the audience, competition in your sector, creative quality. Targeting senior decision makers costs meaningfully more than targeting junior staff.
Cost per thousand impressions £22 to £35 Audience size and overlap. Very narrow audiences push this up quickly.
Click through rate Around 0.4 to 0.65 per cent on sponsored content Format and creative. Message ads run far higher but are a different product with different rules.
Cost per lead £50 to £150 is common, and the full published range is much wider Offer quality above everything. A gated report and a demo request are not the same purchase.
Lead gen form completion Around 10 per cent of clicks Number of fields, and whether the form is prefilled.

Two things this table should tell you. First, LinkedIn is expensive per click compared with almost every other channel, so it only works when the value of a customer is high enough to carry it. Second, chasing a cheap cost per click is usually the wrong goal, because the cheapest clicks come from the least senior audience.

The agenda, hour by hour

Time Session
09:30 Your account on screen. Structure, spend to date, and what the numbers say.
10:15 The live audit. Campaign by campaign, with the fixes written down as we go.
11:00 Break.
11:15 Audiences. Rebuilding your core targeting, matched audiences and retargeting structure.
12:15 Formats and creative, including Thought Leader Ads.
13:00 Lunch.
13:45 Tracking. Insight Tag check, conversions, and the Conversions API.
14:30 Budget, bidding and the optimisation loop.
15:15 Attribution and reporting. Reconciling Campaign Manager with your CRM.
15:45 Your ninety day plan, with owners and dates.

The half day keeps the audit, audiences and tracking, and drops the attribution and planning blocks.

Who it is for

  • Demand generation and paid media managers answerable for a LinkedIn budget.
  • Marketing teams whose cost per lead has crept up and nobody is sure why.
  • Teams bringing LinkedIn ads back in house from an agency.
  • B2B marketers about to spend on LinkedIn for the first time with a real budget.

Prerequisite. Somebody in the room needs admin access to your Campaign Manager account, and ideally to your website so we can check the Insight Tag. This is an intermediate session. If nobody has ever opened Campaign Manager, tell us and we will adjust the morning.

What your team leaves with

  • A written audit of every live campaign, with the fixes prioritised.
  • Rebuilt audiences saved in your account.
  • Tracking checked, and a list of what needs a developer.
  • A budget and bidding plan for the next quarter.
  • A reporting view your leadership will accept.
  • The deck, a workbook and a month of email support.

Who runs the day

Chris Norton delivering LinkedIn advertising training to a marketing team

I am Chris Norton and I run most of these sessions myself. I founded Prohibition, the PR, social and content agency behind this site, I have worked in public relations for more than twenty years, and I have been running training since 2009. I co-authored Share This Too, the social media handbook published by the Chartered Institute of Public Relations.

We buy paid social for clients continuously, so the account we open on the day is not the first one we have seen. Where the work needs a specialist buyer alongside me, one comes with me rather than being described in the third person.

No other page ranking for this term will tell you who is delivering the training. It is a fair question to ask all of them.

Cost and format

Private team prices, not per person prices, excluding VAT.

Format Duration Price, ex VAT Group size
Full day workshop 09:30 until 16:15 £1,800 Up to six people
Half day workshop Three and a half hours £1,200 Up to six people
Additional attendee Either format £250 per person Beyond the first six

Comparable UK courses publish anywhere from about £350 to £750 a head, and are delivered on generic example accounts. Six people at those rates is £2,100 to £4,500 for content that never touches your campaigns. Ours is £1,800 for six, which is £300 a head, and the whole day runs on your account.

Travel outside Yorkshire is charged at cost and agreed before booking. We invoice on purchase order and complete supplier onboarding where you need it.

Questions we get asked

How much do LinkedIn ads cost in the UK?

Cost per click commonly runs £4 to £12 and cost per lead £50 to £150, though the full published range is far wider. Seniority of the audience is the biggest single driver. The table above has the detail and the sources.

Is the free LinkedIn certification enough?

For an individual who wants a badge, yes, and we would send you there rather than take your money. LinkedIn Marketing Labs is free and most modules take about an hour. It cannot look at your account, your spend or your tracking, which is what a workshop is for.

Do we need a Campaign Manager account before the day?

Yes, and somebody in the room needs admin access to it. Ideally access to the website too, so we can verify the Insight Tag rather than take its word for it.

Do you cover the Conversions API?

Yes, as part of the tracking session, alongside the Insight Tag and conversion setup. We will tell you honestly which parts need a developer rather than pretending a marketer can finish it alone.

Why do Campaign Manager conversions not match our CRM?

Attribution windows, view through conversions and lead deduplication, mostly. It is the most common argument in B2B paid media. We work through your two numbers together and give your team a position they can defend rather than a row they keep losing.

Can you audit campaigns we are already running?

That is the core of the day. We go through them live, on screen, and write the fixes down as we go. You leave with the audit, not a promise of one.

What is a realistic budget to start with?

It depends entirely on what a customer is worth to you and how narrow your audience is. We work it out from your own numbers in the budget session. If the arithmetic says LinkedIn will not pay back for what you sell, we will say so.

Do you cover Thought Leader Ads?

Yes, and they get their own block. Promoting a named person’s post rather than a brand post behaves differently enough on cost and engagement to be worth treating separately.

Is this suitable if we have never run LinkedIn ads?

It works, but tell us in advance. We swap the audit for building your first campaign structure and spend longer on audiences and tracking. It is still an intermediate session in pace.

Do you set the campaigns up for us afterwards?

Not as part of the training. Prohibition can take on paid social as retained work if you want that, but the day is built so your team can run it themselves and there is no obligation.
