Microsoft Copilot Training

Copilot training built for campaign work, not the IT helpdesk

Microsoft Copilot training for marketing teams is a one day private course that teaches marketers and communicators to use Microsoft 365 Copilot on real campaign work. Press releases, campaign plans, content calendars, client reports and board papers. We deliver it in your offices anywhere in the UK, or live online, from £1,200.

Why does a marketing team need different Copilot training?

Almost every Microsoft Copilot course sold in the United Kingdom is written by IT trainers for general office staff. Look at the outlines and you will see the same examples repeated. Summarise a long report. Tidy up an email. Build a spreadsheet formula. None of that is the work your team actually does.

A marketing team does not need help writing a clearer email. It needs to know whether Copilot can draft a press release that a national journalist will not bin, whether it will hold your tone of voice across a fifteen post campaign, and what happens to an embargoed announcement the moment somebody pastes it into a chat window.

We run this session as practitioners. Prohibition is a working PR, social and content agency in Leeds. The prompts we teach are the ones we use on live client accounts, and the warnings we give come from mistakes we have watched people make.

What will your team be able to do by the end of the day?

Draft in your voice

Build a reusable tone of voice prompt from your own brand guidelines, then hold it across a whole campaign rather than one document.

Write a press release

Produce a first draft with a defensible structure, then edit it like an editor rather than accepting whatever appears.

Plan a campaign

Turn a brief into a content calendar, a channel plan and a set of measurable objectives in a single working session.

Report to clients and boards

Pull social and campaign data into a clear narrative in PowerPoint, with the numbers checked rather than invented.

Spot the failures

Recognise where Copilot fabricates, flattens or repeats, and know which tasks are not worth handing over at all.

Work inside the rules

Understand what must never go into a prompt, what your clients need told, and where the ASA and CMA sit on AI content.

What does the course cover?

The day runs as eight blocks, with hands on work in every one. Your own briefs, your own brand guidelines and your own campaign data are used throughout, so nobody leaves with a folder of generic exercises.

1. Which Copilot do you have?

Copilot Chat, Microsoft 365 Copilot and the consumer app behave differently and see different data. We settle this first because most confusion starts here.

2. Prompting for marketing output

Role, context, constraints, examples and format. Why a four line prompt beats a one line prompt, and how to build a prompt library your team reuses.

3. Copilot in Word

Press releases, briefing notes, award entries and case studies. Loading brand guidelines as a reference so the draft starts closer to publishable.

4. Copilot in PowerPoint

Client reports, new business pitches and board papers. Turning a document into a deck without ending up with forty slides of bullet points.

5. Copilot in Excel

Campaign performance, social exports and media coverage logs. Asking questions of a dataset, and checking the answer before it reaches a client.

6. Copilot in Outlook and Teams

Media relations, stakeholder updates and meeting recaps. Where summarising helps and where it quietly loses the point that mattered.

7. Governance and risk

Embargoes, client confidentiality, personal data and disclosure. What your team must never paste in, and what your AI policy should say.

8. Your AI action plan

Each person leaves with three tasks they will hand to Copilot next week, and one they have decided to keep doing themselves.

Which Copilot licence does your team need?

This is the question that derails more sessions than any other, so it is worth settling before you book. The three products share a name and do very different jobs.

Product Cost What it can see Good for
Microsoft Copilot (consumer app) Free The open web only Research, first drafts, idea generation
Microsoft 365 Copilot Chat Included with eligible Microsoft 365 subscriptions The web, with enterprise data protection Safer general drafting inside a work account
Microsoft 365 Copilot £13.80 per user per month, paid yearly Your own files, email, chats and meetings through Microsoft Graph Real marketing work on your own campaigns and data

Prices checked against Microsoft’s own United Kingdom business pricing on 24 August 2026 and subject to change.

The honest answer is that a team on Copilot Chat alone will get real value from about half this course. The Word, PowerPoint and Excel blocks need the paid Microsoft 365 Copilot licence, because that is the version that can read your own documents. Tell us which you have when you enquire and we will shape the day around it rather than teaching you features you cannot use.

Can Copilot write a press release?

It can write a structure. It cannot write the story. Given a decent brief, Microsoft 365 Copilot will produce a release with a headline, a standfirst, a quote slot and a boilerplate in roughly the shape a journalist expects, and it will do it in about ninety seconds.

What it will not do is know which angle a news editor will care about this week, which is the whole job. Left alone it reaches for the safest, blandest framing available, and it will happily invent a statistic to make a paragraph land. We spend this block teaching your team to brief it properly, then to edit ruthlessly, and to check every number against a source before the release leaves the building.

Can Copilot hold your brand tone of voice?

Yes, but not by being asked nicely. Telling Copilot to write in a friendly and professional tone produces the same beige output everyone else gets, because that instruction carries almost no information.

What works is a reference document. We build one on the day from your existing brand guidelines, three pieces of copy you are proud of and a short list of words and constructions you have banned. That document then goes into the prompt every time, and the difference in the first draft is immediate. Teams usually find the exercise valuable in its own right, because writing down what your voice actually is tends to expose where it has drifted.

Should you tell clients and audiences when you have used AI?

This is a governance question rather than a tooling one, and it is the part most Copilot courses skip entirely. In the United Kingdom the Advertising Standards Authority and the Competition and Markets Authority both police misleading content regardless of how it was produced, so AI is no defence when something turns out to be wrong.

Our working position, and the one we teach, is that using Copilot to draft is no more disclosable than using a spellchecker, but publishing anything you have not verified is indefensible either way. Where AI has generated an image, a voice or a quote, say so. Where it has generated a claim, check it. We cover what belongs in your AI policy and who should sign it off, and there is a fuller session on the reputational side in our AI misinformation and crisis training.

How is the training delivered?

Format Length Group size Price excluding VAT
Private half day, your offices or online 3 hours Up to six From £1,200
Private full day, your offices or online 6 hours Up to six From £1,800
Larger groups and multi team rollouts Agreed Seven or more Quoted
One to one coaching for a senior lead 2 hours One Quoted

We travel anywhere in the United Kingdom. Leeds, Manchester, Birmingham and London are routine. Online sessions run on Teams or Zoom, split into shorter blocks so nobody sits through six hours of screen.

Every booking includes a scoping call before the day, so the exercises use your briefs and your brand rather than ours.

Who runs the day?

Chris Norton delivering marketing training to an in house team

I am Chris Norton and I run most of these sessions myself. I founded Prohibition, the PR, social and content agency behind this site, I have worked in public relations for more than twenty years, and I have been running training since 2009. I co-authored Share This Too, the social media handbook published by the Chartered Institute of Public Relations.

We use Copilot and the other large language models on live client work every week, which means the session is built on what has actually worked and what has quietly gone wrong. Where a specialist is needed alongside me, they come to the session rather than being described in the third person.

No other page competing for this term will tell you who is standing at the front. Ask all of them.

What can Copilot do that ChatGPT cannot?

Most marketing teams already have somebody quietly using ChatGPT. The reason to add Copilot is not that it writes better prose, because often it does not. It is that it can see your work.

Task ChatGPT Microsoft 365 Copilot
Draft copy from a blank page Strong Comparable
Use last quarter’s campaign report as context Only if you paste or upload it Reads it from your own files
Summarise a client meeting you attended Not possible Reads the Teams transcript
Pull figures from your own coverage spreadsheet Only if you upload it Works in the sheet
Search your inbox for what a journalist asked Not possible Reads your Outlook
Client confidential material Depends entirely on your plan and settings Stays inside your tenant

Put plainly, ChatGPT is the better blank page. Copilot is the better colleague, because it already knows what your team did last month. Teams that understand that distinction stop arguing about which tool is better and start using both properly.

What does a worked example look like?

Here is the exercise most teams remember afterwards. We take a one page client brief that somebody in the room brought with them, usually vague and usually late.

First we load the brand guidelines and two previous campaign write ups as reference. Then we ask Copilot for five campaign territories, and reject four of them out loud, explaining why. The surviving idea goes back in with tighter constraints and comes out as a channel plan, a six week content calendar and a set of objectives with numbers attached.

Then we break it. We ask Copilot for supporting statistics and watch it produce two that do not exist. We ask for a quote from a named executive and watch it write one nobody said. That is the moment the room stops treating it as magic, and it is deliberately built into the day.

By the end the team has a plan they could take to a client on Monday, and a healthy suspicion of the tool that produced it. Both matter.

Who should attend?

In house marketing teams

Marketing managers, content leads and campaign executives who are drowning in drafting and want the time back.

Communications and PR teams

Press officers, comms managers and heads of communications handling media, internal comms and stakeholder reporting.

Agency teams

Account handlers, planners and creatives who need speed on client work without putting confidential material at risk.

No previous AI experience is needed. We have taught people who use Copilot daily and people who had never opened it, in the same room, and the exercises scale to both.

Microsoft Copilot training questions we get asked

How much does Microsoft Copilot training cost in the UK?

Open courses from other providers run roughly £495 to £2,000 per person per day. We price by the group instead, from £1,200 for a half day and £1,800 for a full day for up to six people, excluding VAT. For a team of six that works out around £300 a head, which is why in house delivery usually beats sending people on public courses.

Do we need a paid Copilot licence before the training?

Not to attend, but it changes the day. Without Microsoft 365 Copilot at £13.80 per user per month, Copilot cannot read your own documents, so the Word, PowerPoint and Excel blocks become demonstrations rather than hands on work. Teams on Copilot Chat only still get full value from the prompting, governance and press office blocks.

What is the difference between Copilot Chat and Microsoft 365 Copilot?

Copilot Chat is the free version inside your work account. It sees the open web with enterprise data protection, but it cannot see your files. Microsoft 365 Copilot is the paid add on that connects through Microsoft Graph to your own email, documents, chats and meetings, which is what makes it useful for campaign work.

Is Copilot training worth it when Microsoft offers free training?

Microsoft Learn is genuinely good, and free, at explaining what the buttons do. It does not teach a comms team how to brief Copilot on a crisis statement, how to stop it flattening your brand voice, or what to do when it invents a figure. That gap is the entire reason this course exists.

Can you deliver the training in our offices?

Yes, and most clients choose that. We travel across the United Kingdom and work on your own machines, your own licences and your own live briefs, which removes the usual gap between a training day and Monday morning.

Will Copilot replace people in our marketing team?

In our experience it replaces tasks, not people. Drafting, summarising and formatting get much faster. Judgement about what to say, who to say it to and whether it is true does not, and those are the parts clients and boards actually pay for. We are direct about this on the day because pretending otherwise loses the room.

Is our data safe if we put client information into Copilot?

Microsoft 365 Copilot operates inside your tenant with enterprise data protection, and Microsoft states that your prompts and data are not used to train its foundation models. The consumer app is a different matter entirely. We cover which product your team is actually opening, and what should never go into any of them, including embargoed announcements and personal data.

How many people can attend?

Six is the sweet spot for hands on work. We will run up to twelve, but beyond that the practical exercises suffer, so larger teams are better served by two sessions or a workshop format with a facilitator alongside me.

Do delegates get a certificate?

Yes, along with the prompt library built on the day, your tone of voice reference document and the slides. The certificate matters less than the prompt library, which is the thing people actually use the following week.

Can you train our clients rather than our own staff?

Yes. Tell us when you enquire and we will agree how the day is badged and what the materials carry.

Tell us who needs training and what they are stuck on

Half day £1,200, full day £1,800, up to six people, excluding VAT. Delivered UK wide or online.
